Feedback on Erleada after Abiraterone

I am writing this to see if anyone has followed a similar path and can offer impressions of side effects for Erleada vs Abiriterone.

Diagnosed stage 4 July 2022. Gleason 3+4. Started Abiraterone/Pred, Lupron, Zometa in September, so have been on it 2.5yrs.

The lowest my PSA got was 0.14 in January 2023 and has been incrementally rising since then. Had a couple bigish jumps including last one and now my PSA is at 1.08. Had a second Pet scan in October, oncologist has requested another one now.

He's suggested changing my regimen to Erleada, stopping prednisone, rest stays the same.

Just wondering if anyone has any insight into are Erleada side effects worse, better, equal to Abi. Particularly the reference to increase risk of falls concerns me. I've had a few falls already, mostly due to bad luck but my ribs and back can't take more of those! I've learned to be more careful with myself. I'm used to operating at 11 most of the time. : )

I'm 68 and still working, (despite wanting to retire for a while now) and in the running for a promotion which would be much more pressure/stress/visibility not to mention travel than what I'm used to. Therefore nervous about the change at this time. Though it is what it is.

Any feedback welcome.

Joel

Here is an article on Erleada after Abiraterone:

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of apalutamide before or after treatment with abiraterone acetate and prednisone (AAP) in patients with progressive metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC).... Overall, apalutamide was safe and well tolerated in patients with mCRPC. aacrjournals.org/clincancer...

Does Erleada cause loss of balance issues?

From A.I. <===<<<

ChatGPT said:

Yes, Erleada (apalutamide) can cause balance issues, including an increased risk of falls and fractures. Some patients taking Erleada have reported dizziness, coordination problems, and weakness, which can contribute to loss of balance. If you're experiencing these symptoms, it's important to discuss them with your doctor, as they may be able to suggest ways to manage or reduce the risk.

Note; Would you please update your bio, Thank you (and steady as you go).

Thanks for the reply. Of course I’ve read all that. I was looking for experiences of actual people if possible.

What part of my bio? It looks up to date to me.

I'm also having balance issues, taking two meds: Lupron and Nubeqa. I've been using a cane now for two years. Take it easy and if you should fall try to protect your head.

Re; Your bio is "Hi! I'm jedimister". As the saying goes: "It is what it is" Thank you!!!

Nubeqa was another of the potential alternatives along with Xtandi.

I’ll look at the bio thing. I filled out pages of info. This site’s usability is a bit trash. (I’m do software quality assurance.)

Thanks and be well!

hello Joel-

I was diagnosed in June 2018 with over 25 bone metastasis all over my torso. I did Abi n Pred for4 years. I asked to go to Erleda since my brain was telling me that the nasty buggers were going to get around Abi and I would end up castration resistant.

I have been taking Erleda for 2 1/2 years now with no side effects other than the same hot flashes, no libido and some fatigue that I had w Abi. My PSA is 0.4 and testosterone of 6. I am 74 but I recently rode an adventure motorcycle in Utah and camped out each night, just spent 2 weeks traveling Iceland in a van, rode my jet ski from Ft Lauderdale to Bimini, Bahamas, captained a fishing expedition w 3 buddies on an old tug in Alaska 2 years ago, etc.

I have had 50 radiation visits that weren’t bad. I am happy, healthy and looking for more action! I hope this info helps you! Best wishes!

You are an example to us all! That's a lot more mets than I had (a lot more) which is why I'd hoped to get another couple years out of the ABI.

Glad to hear the Earleada hasn't been too much different. I'm envious of your adventures.

Regards,

Joel
