hair loss

I was wondering what others experience has been with hair loss during docetaxel. I completed my 10th round on May 2. After my first five treatments, I didn’t really lose any hair, and then the last five it got thinner, but I still had a decent amount. Now, over a month since my last treatment I seem to be losing hair more and more. I have lost more in the last month than I did during the entire time getting chemotherapy. I am currently only on Lupron and checking my PSA every four weeks before I start pluvicto. I was just curious if others lost more hair after treatment than they did during and when did it start growing back?

I shaved my head hair because I did not want to see it fall out. All of my body hair eyebrows and eyelashes fell out at maybe treatment number 4 of 6. It took maybe a year to largely grow back. Eyelashes are still not back to normal. Hair when it came back (after shaving all that came back during chemo was thin fuzz) was white and curly. Slowly got its grey color back.

I had 4 cycles od Docetaxel and began Lupron at the same time in 10/22. Lupron discontinued one year later (PSA undetectable). After my third chemo treatment I began losing head and body hair. Like the other poster, my head hair partially grew back white and curly initially. After about 6 months my head hair grew back, actually a little thicker than before, but my body hair has not returned.

Ouch, eyelashes too? I didn't realize that this could happen. I learn something every day on this site. 😎

More to learn:

You can always buy several sets of them in a can at the cosmetic counter. I would advise against the ones for sale at the spider bug store.

I lost my hair during treatment, went ahead and shaved my head after round 2 or 3. Post treatment my hair on my head grew back better than before although it never returned on my legs and chest. Facial hair is like it always was.

Like retireddoc, my hair basically fell out on the 4th round of taxotere, same with eyebrows. I don't recall specifically how long it took to grow back but two to three mont sounds about right. I was hoping it would come back as say a redhead, alas, gray it is...still, it's there. The eyebrows, well, let's say my hairdresser says I have them, the mirror says something different!

There are many ways to augment eyebrows. Very popular today. I tried everything but it was too much work and I am too cheap to get tattoos. They grew back anyway.

Now is your chance to be a ginger. I chose purple which is better than white but the grey did come back. I am now variegated purple/grey and I like it.

Eyelashes are still lacking which is problem when biking in bug areas. I would almost consider extensions or professionally applied lashes/ Take that you f*!ki#g flies.

Oct18....you may have me confused with someone else. I have never gone the Lupron route. Orgovyx instead.

I had six cycles and lost all my hair (head, chest / belly, armpits) about 2 weeks after my first infusion. Eyebrows and pubes thinned but didn’t fall out totally.

About 3 weeks after my last infusion, the hair on my head returned. Initially, it came back very fine and white. I shaved it one last time then it came back in normally. Pits, chest and belly hair did not return but I think that’s a function of the ADT.

Just checked, pit hair never came back. Don't miss it much or the lack of BO which happens with no testosterone. I only need to shower when actually dirty, never stink.

I used a cooling cap during my chemo (docetaxel) and didn't experience any hair loss. I bought two sets of caps, mitts, socks, so I could have them on for a few min before the infusion and would change them during and keep on a few min after. I think this also helped me to avoid increased neuropathy in my hands and feet.
