mom wondering what your suggestions are for pain management. My dad has been having bad pain in his hip and leg to where he now can hardly get up and down the stairs and he also can’t walk or stand very long anymore.
(For background, we found out a week or so ago that his Erleada treatment has failed, we have to wait for another 4 or so weeks to have his next treatment. He is staying in Erleada until then)
He has had hydromorphone before and it didn’t really relieve pain, just made him loopy. So we called in and they offered T3 which is also not really working. Anything else that you guys have found helpful for pain?

Your Dad's Oncologist should refer him to a pain management specialist.... 🙏 I have mets to the spine, and occasional hip pain, took months to get it right but a palliative care Doc prescribed low dose extended release pain med and one for break through pain whilst I wait for radiation. If the pain is nerve pain, he may need a medicine like Gabapentin. Has he tried CBDC topicals to the affected area? I find them topicals helpful.
Yeah, after we called her again about the pain she booked a spine MRI for today so maybe they will see if the source from his pain is there and prescribe gabapentin. He’s at the point where he can’t lift his leg well without using his had to lift it.
Haven’t tried the topicals so that is definitely one to look into, thank you!
Depending on which state you live in try to get the CBD Oil or Lotion with THC, either 1:1 or 1:3 (your Dr. should be able to give you a prescription) . Good luck with todays scan.
ok good to note, I hope he has more good days than bad
Right now we are waiting until the 18th for his appointment (moved up by a week), but his MRI results have not hit the portal so there is no clue as of yet. It is a long weekend so I guess it’s slow. He’s now having a very hard time getting up and has to use his hands to lift his leg up sometimes. Hopefully we hear something soon
Oh, dear! That sounds exactly like my husband. Yesterday I had to put his socks on for him because he couldn’t raise his legs high enough. I’m hoping your dad isn’t in the same situation but just in case he is, make sure they schedule him to see a neurosurgeon. If the rest of his spine looks okay, he can have surgery to fix and fortify the area of the fracture. I my husband’s case, that’s not possible because his spine riddled with mets 😢
just got results back and there is no evidence of a fracture or anything like that. Nonetheless, like your husband he’s struggling with putting his socks on as well. Maybe other scans will help us see what going on (I hope!)
He has pain in both his back and hips. He got radiation for 5 days and was referred to palliative care for pain management help. For about a week after seeing palliative care he was really good. His PSA dropped slightly as he started Olaprib and his pain was manageable. The pain was cause by really extensive metastasis in his pelvis and scrum area
Right now his pain is still improved, mainly due to taking a nerve pain medication however he isn’t “well”. His PSA rose slightly and his hemoglobin is getting low
It went down to 105 and they had him stop Olaprib for about a week while he did radiation just to reduce stress in his body. It was stable at 100 for that time. Now that he’s back on it he’s down to 83 (or 10 down to 8.3 depending on the units). Not horrible, just steadily declining and he does look quite pale
Although his scans showed little change, his PSA rose from 1.3 to 68 in the matter of maybe a month and a half, his doubling time was extremely fast. He also was very symptomatic
