Paroxetine for Hot flashes?

Anyone have any experience or knowledge about Paroxetine? My MO suggested I take 10 mg daily to help with hot flashes. I’m not too crazy about the idea of taking an antidepressant.

Venlafaxine (Effexor) is usually used. But other therapies to reduce hot flashes include: acupuncture, estrogen patch ( with tamoxifen), Megace, or oxybutynin.

Estradiol patches work like a charm for hot flashes and help promote bone health. No cardiac risk because it is absorbed through the skin, unlike pill form that is processed through the liver. I’ve been on them for 7-8 years now, originally prescribed by Snuffy Myers. He has several YouTube videos about it.

I have used venlafaxine 37.5mg and also 75mg. It helps a little but if you miss a dose or try to get off the stuff its very difficult. At least it was for me.I am trying to get my MO to try Estradoil patches. They seem to work the best.

They work very well for me too. For an experiment, I did not replace estrogen for a few weeks. Never again! I started losing my mind.

I agree "taking an antidepressant is depressing".....
