Dogs and Hot flashes

I have tried everything for night time hot flashes. It seems estradiol patches are helping a little but concerned about side effects.

I never have hot flashes when cuddling with a Poodle. The problem is that neither of my current Poodles likes to cuddle all night. My former Sophie would spoon the whole night and move only when I did. She was amazing as are both Saffie and Darcy but they are just not cuddlers.

I think having a warm and fuzzy body next to you does something about thermoregulation better than the $350 thing you stick on your wrist. BTW I did some experiments and my huge laboratory chiller did seem to work but I could never get the cheap little peltier things to do anything but burn out.

So how do I get Saffie or Darcy to cuddle? strap one on? Has anyone had similar results with a cuddly warm body? Husband is out because he has sleep apnea and we can not sleep together or at least I can't sleep.

I will be getting a fleece (genuine lamb skin) mattress topper and although it is not warm it might work?

I have never heard of heat helping hot flashes, but we all present differently. When I am outside in a cold climate I never notice hot flashes. Under the covers most commonly (un-cover til cold, cover up, repeat) all night long.

So funny to read this, as I spent the past two nights in the same bed with my wife, which is not the usual since we both prefer different mattress types, we both wake each other up with snoring, we both like shifting, rolling and "going diagonal" across the bed, reading/texting in bed while the other wants to sleep, etc., etc.

It didn't even occur to me, but no awakening with the sweats, which usually happens 2-3x a night when alone. Interesting.

The dog prefers her and/or her (larger) bed. So no hope there, lol.

is that parallel diagonal or right angles?

I'd call them "wrong" angles!

Thanks for your story about hot dogs. I chuckled as I read it and promptly read iy (with a few edits) to my 👪 family. I'm sure you weren't intending that use but there's a good bit of humour there.

That said, I have had very similar experience with both rigors and hot flashes. Not prostate related b⁵⅚ symptoms quickly subsided. I felt at the time that the cure was a combination of psychological and physiological respos

Sleep number sells a mattress topper called Dual Temp. You can turn it to hot or cold. A friend told me about it. It was expensive but the hot flashes stopped. In my opinion it was well worth the money.

we had a sleep number bed and was not impressed, more marketing than engineering. i hope the lamb fleece topper will work if not this is a cheaper alternative to sleep number thing but ideally i will just convince Darcy to spoon with me. Hubby suggested putting treats under the pillow to keep him interested.

Why am I complaining about cost? I am trying to get my Poodle to do the job and he cost $2300 plus airfare to get him home :) and he eats a lot more than what the electricity would cost. But there is the love factor.

I am almost guaranteed a hot flash if I have my dog in my lap while I am drinking something hot.

I have been on estradiol patches for over two weeks and hot flashes did not seem to change much. The hubby ordered the following and I used it last night as soon as I could rip open the package. Made a special trip up the 1.5 mile driveway to get it. I had virtually no hot flashes last night. The few I had were so minor I would not have even noticed unless I was looking for them. Just a little warm feeling no sweating etc. It is possible that the Estradiol just finally kicked in but that would be an amazing coinkidink. Anyone want a slightly used Poodle at a good price?

I fall asleep in the hot tub all the time and don't remember ever having one there. Only problem is that I would probably drown. I have not used the tub in over 20 years so it would need sand blasting.

Seriously I think that hot flashes happen when your body responds inappropriately to a temperature change local or otherwise and just goes nuts. That is why some sort of stability like a warm or cold environment far from body temperature or a temperature buffer like a dog or the fleece mattress topper I just tried. I sure hope it is still good tonight, then I will dump the estradiol and see if it stays good.

The little refer thing that goes on your wrist must do the same, provide some sort of reference.
