I’m starting chemo with Taxotere plus Carboplatin for mCRPC with BRCA2 mutation. Has anyone had this treatment, how was it tolerated and what were your results? Thanks and God bless!

My husband did the taxotere+carboplatin August —December 2019
He followed that combination with Zytiga + Lupron.
He is alive and doing well. The chemotherapy was difficult towards the end. He developed terrible indigestion, and that made him nauseated. He wound up taking an over the counter antacid which helped enormously.
He iced his hands and feet and did not develop neuropathy.
The chemo was not side effect free but was very manageable. And by manageable, I mean, he was working and golfing the whole way through it.
Dachshundlove, thanks so much for your reply and for the OTC antacid tip. I’m hoping I will also be able to keep working which for me is all computer so not strenuous. We’ll see. Any foods he needed to avoid due to indigestion?
I am also BRCA2. Was on Olaparib for close to 2 years, with undetectable PSA, until it ran it's course. Have not yet had any chemo. I have been recommended on this site to consider a combo of Cabazitaxl and Carboplatin as an effective and less toxic treatment for us BRCA2 warriors. It's on my list, but not yet. Hoping it works for you. Wishing you luck. 🤞
Olaparib ran it’s course for me after about 6 months. You’re fortunate to have it effective for a couple of years. I’d be interested what others experience has been. My PSA is now 54 so we’re praying chemo knocks it down.
Hi Mech, I’ve gone through 5 cycles of Docetaxel and Carboplatin so far. I began with 2 cycles of Etoposide with Carboplatin but switch since it wasn’t working very well. I’ve had a good response to the five cycles. I have one cycle to go but my MO is thinking about 10 cycles. It has been challenging. There’s about a week of intense fatigue and weakness in each cycle that’s hard to get through. Make sure you use Pepcid 2 times per day to control gird. I didn’t do that in the beginning and it made it so much harder. Good luck to you.
There is no one answer. Some have little side effects, others ( like me) had a difficult experience. I started 6 months of Taxotere infusion in October 2020. I experienced shortness of breath, nausea, loss of appetite and little energy.Although my PSA went down from 126 to 26 it is now up to 170.
I currently take Lynparza( Chemo pills) and side effects are much less severe other than nausea and headaches.
My only recommendation is to eat 4-5 small meals each day such as soups and get some exercise.

j-o-h-n, I’ve updated my home page with the following:I am 67 years old living in Palo Cedro, CA with metastatic castration resistant PC, originally diagnosed in 2011. I had a prostatectomy in 2015, Gleason score 5+4=9 and am on testosterone suppression (Lupron). Since being diagnosed with BRCA2 gene mutation in Jan 2020, I have been taking Lynparza (olaparib). My PSA continued rising for a few months after starting Lynparza, then tapered off to 1.6. PSA began rising again March 2021, latest PSA is 54. Bone metastasis to pelvic, lumbar vertebrae, sternum, ribs. I’m starting chemo: Taxotere + Carboplatin, Jan 2022.
