Hello to everyone....my father afteer 15-16 chemotherapy sessions feels his legs numbed and cant walk without help ....doctor said that this can be a side effect of Taxotere....it causes peripheral neuropathy he said and this can go away if he stops the sessions...so we decided to stop it for a couple of months and see how it goes....is there anyone else with these kind of side effects?does it really go away when it taxotere stops?

Nick

Ice!! I have done 9 sessions with Taxotere and when I started I did not use ice but now I use ice when the Taxotere is administered and it seems to prevent the neuropathy and further deterioriation of my nails although the nails are in pretty bad shape. The MSK nurses have small bags which they fill with ice each of which has a place for my foot or hands and the ice is in a separate section. The hands and feet get very red and nearly frostbite but I try to take it as best I can. Others I understand bring in coolers with Ice and soak the whole foot, good if you can do it. Nurse said I only need it when Taxotere is administered not when the carboplatin which i also take is administered.

I also wear on the days after chemo sports socks which put pressure on my feet and keep down the swelling. It is hard to get them on. They keep down the swelling which occurs on the days after chemo.

Neuropathy is a problem for chemo patients but I think both the ice and socks can reduce the problem if your father wants to continue with the chemo.

thank you eggraj8 for the info...didnt know this...and also noone from the hospital told us this...not even the onc.....now we stopped taxotere for some time to get my fathers nerves in good shape so that he can walk normally and then i will follow your advice....

Two years after my chemo treatment, I still get burning, numbing sensations in my legs every great once in awhile. It lasts for only a few minutes and goes away. This happens maybe once, twice a week.

nameless9999 thank you for your reply....my father doesnt have any kind of burning ....nevertheless has numbling sensations and muscular weakness...he can barely walk ....also another thing that i didnt mention is that for 14 months he didnt go out of the house ...just walked in the house,a thing which i believe caused this also....

Bryson43 ...the thing is that my father is stable because of chemotherapy....he has done 20....we had scans that proved that he is stable although his psa is rising.....after 5 years we dont care so much about this number....but this now happened and we stopped it ...so we wait unti he can walk normally again and then we see how we continue

Nick, I had 10 treatments of taxotere 11 years ago experiencing only fatigue. The last year or so I have experienced a light case of restless leg (neuropathy?) that is controlled well by taking Gabapentin. Wish I could offer more. I will say my biggest problem was from radiation that caused a fistula. Had to have a colostomy this year so radiation side effects show up years later. Best of luck.

What side effects of radiation show up years later? Other examples please or ways to prevent? My dad can't walk for hours upon waking, but my mother is also in radiation for Undifferentiated lung carcinoma spread through upper cavity with tumors on spine at danger of causing paralysis. She's in emergency radiation. Is there anything I can do to help her avoid further side effects tommorow will need treat. 5 of 10

Yes I've had 13 chemo treatment using taxotere. From about the 10th treatment on I had leg we weakness to the point l started using a cane when I could tell I was going to have problems. I have been on a chemo holiday now for about 2 months. Much a the strength has returned. I have to be careful not to fall, this has become more of a problem with weak legs and swollen feet.
