Just finished up 25 rounds of proton beam radiation, and gladly rang the bell at Mayo! I am feeling much better now, walking, and gaining my strength back.
Since my tumor was attached to my rectum, they had to insert a balloon up my ass and inflate with water before each treatment. Even with dilladin and opium suppositories, just not fun at all.
Gladly, I say goodbye to the balloons!
The radiation treatments didn't wipe me out, but the cancer itself did. Goddamn cancer spread to a muscle in my pelvic area and caused a pain to come on when I stood up that can only be described as debilitating. I called it a 12 scale. Big boy tears. Spent a week in Mayo as Palliative Care got things figured out. I was pretty much grounded to a wheel chair for the majority of the treatments.
My Radiation + Ketruda wasn't suppose to begin until this month, September. I Was doing well with taking Zytiga and the ADT path. Had a first scan done in May and my cancer tumor shrunk by 80%. Three weeks later, in the hospital.
Half way thru the Radiation, things started to get better. I was able to stand up without pain, and was able to stand up and piss. ( I was full time self cathing ) .
My only complaint today is the lingering radiation effect on my rectum area. Lots of ugly snotty shit coming out, but that's it!
Today I celebrate my walking and pissing!
Things are looking up Brothers!

Congrats on getting through all of that. Glad your feeling and doing better. Hopefully the good keeps coming.
Congrats. Interesting though. When I did IMRT after Brachytherapy in 2003. My RO was a professor and researcher at a major medical school in Texas. He developed a catheter with a water balloon that inflated to keep the prostate in the same location each time. Consequently I had very minimal scarring on the left side of my colon. Gastroenterologist was amazed at so little damage. Twenty-five sessions.

2003? Wow Gd . You are a miracle too . Bravissimo !👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍
Dave, good to hear from you. Last we texted, you had no solution for the pain in your backside. Proton can be the best solution, but most say it is no better than Photon. Im glad for you brother. What a Damn ride. All you want to do is fish, and you had to complete this chapter in your book first. Recover well. Progress is Progress. Best,
Appreciate the kind words Mike. Yes, quite ride this has been. Really makes one appreciate the normal days. My strength will be back soon and kayak fishing we go!
Congratulations, I am so happy for you. I had Proton Therapy eleven years ago, best decision I ever made!
Dave ! You one strong human to withstand what you already have . Your are a “ big boy” . Great job just getting though this hell. I can relate . I had two yrs of hell in which it was always dicey. This pc is a ruthless bitch. Only your tenacity and will to live can outlast a bad pc. I had a foley after self cathing failed and I had tubes out of my kidneys . I remember the first time that I peed freely without pain standing up. A dammed miracle. You are too a miracle by taking these draconian treatments and surviving . I hope that you can shed all of the bad that is troubling you right now. No more balloons buddy! Heal and recover . Good day .. hang in there . 💪 Scott
Dave, I’m so pleased that you are doing so much better. You had a tough ride over the past few months. I’m honoured to know such a tough resilient fella like you. I would normally say that you have big balls, but after ADT, none of us do. Keep up the great progress champ.
