This article says pumpkin seed oil can help with prostate health, probably focused more on prevention, but what about once you have prostate cancer. healthline.com/nutrition/11...
This article shows that linoleic acid (found in pumpkin seeds/oil, and other oils) is directly linked to increase in prostate and breast cancer tumor growth. What is the takeaway? Try to avoid all oils that are high in linoleic acid? Coconut oil is not but it is high in Lauric acid which is supposed to grow prostate cancer. Do you believe the findings presented in this article, or is it outdated and untrue? This website looks like it has many informative articles: dailymedicaldiscoveries.com...
Something else I don't like about the pumpkin seed oil composition is that it says it has 127 times as much Omega 6 as it does Omega 3. This link shows composition/% based on 100grams of pumpkin seed oil. The standard daily amount of a supplement is about 2 grams, so in practical terms, if the pumpkin seed oild helps with heart health then is a 2 gram daily dose going to grow your prostate cancer? A 2 gram supplement serving size size it is 20 calories. In the daily medical discoveries above, it shows that a 20 calorie dose of linoleic acid does significantly increase tumor size. If my math is correct, linoeic acid is about 54% of pumpkin seed oil, which would mean that 2 grams of pumpkin seed oil would equal about 10 calories of linoeic acid per day if taking the supplements, which according to the dailymedicaldiscoveries article is still way to high.
My conclusion twofold:
1. is that eliminating/avoiding all oils might be a wise choice. Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn (cardiologist) has been saying to remove added/processed oils for decades: learntruehealth.com/dr-cald... and eat six fist sized servings of vegetables per day.
2. Take Fisetin supplements based on the dailymedicaldiscoveries article/study results presented above. I already researched fisetin and bought it last year but I forgot why I take it (which happens with some of the supplements I buy). I just need to trust that I bought the supplements for a good reason
Here is a portion of the dailymedicaldiscoveries article that is a bit of a helpful summary (if you believe the study that the author is citing):
"But they a flavonoid called fisetin was an even more effective leukotriene inhibitor.
You can find this flavonoid strongly in strawberries (and apples, to a lesser extent).
Besides avoiding PUFA, aspirin and indomethacin are common prostaglandin inhibitors.
Linoleic acid, although found in vegetable seed oils such as safflower (75% of total fatty acids), walnut (60%), sunflower (54%), corn (53%), soybean (52%), cotton (49%), palm (8%), and coconut (2%), is not a major component of vegetables.
Corn is a major source of linoleic acid.
But soy, canola oil, and others are significant sources of large amounts.
Almonds have 21.52%, and then peanuts also have a large 44.6% portion.
But coconut has just 2% and macadamia 3% โ negligible levels."
I'd like to hear other guys opinions before I start reducing parts of my nut collection in my pantry and fridge and adding more vegetables and greens. I do think the links in this post are helpful reading but some of you might prove me wrong. It's good to share ideas. This is also a topic that presumes that food intake can actually change the speed of prostate cancer growth. Most doctors don't believe food has anything to do with the prostate cancer.

Where is the randomized trial? Biology is beyond native interpretation and mathematics is useless for outcome models. So, maybe I can take my case, DX 1000+, with a tumor making me scream when urinating. Then, after initial Casodex for a few days, my pain went away, soon afterwards Lupron/Predisone, all good at this point.
But, I drink Bourbon, so should I create a protocol Standard of Care+Bourbon is the way?
No!!!!
Prostate Cancer is biologically engineered into our body, like our fingerprint. It does have a characteristic of feeding on hormones, how it responses to treatment, is predetermined.
I sometimes post things quickly and then find opposing research. I'm going to update my post to create more helpful discussion. Good thoughts you espoused. Let me know what you think after I edit the post.
Iโve heard of the benefits of pumpkin seeds for pc for many years . I eat them daily . Great in salads .. ๐
I eat them on my salads too. After I debated myself with research articles today, I'm not so sure about the pumpkin seeds anymore. Let's hope some of the really smart guys on this site have some knowledge on the subject. I just edited my post and included several links, some of them saying that pumpkin seed oil could help the prostate cancer grow faster.
This issue about use of PUFA has created lot of confusion in the past as various studies have given opposite conclusions. But, last year a huge epidemiological study of 50000 people has put this confusion to rest. This is the study which showed that PUFA does not increase prostate cancer risk and risk of rapid growth of PCa. I could not locate this study today.
However, all oils are not created equal.. t he best ones are Mustard oil, sesame oil and olive oil. Excessive amount of any oil can provide too many calories and raise tryglyceride levels which is not good for PCa people.
I hate to say this but it's all a crock of bunk....I ate more flaxseed than a human can possibly consume based on the flaxseed study by Dr Wahnefeld; however, I had heard so many conflicting reports, that I actually tracked her down and emailed her....she actually answered me! She stated emphatically that i should eat three tbls. ground flaxseeds every day, as it would prevent or decrease tumor activity in the prostate. I did this for years, also supplementing with beta-sitosterol, curcumin extract, ginger pills - YOU NAME IT!! PSA went up over time, Had a Gleason 4+3 on biopsy....so you tell me: did all that stuff really matter or would I have had a higher score if I didn't take it? My conclusion is that you get what you get, and unless your diet is truly horrible, loaded with sugars and unhealthy fats, your odds of getting PC don't change at all....JMHO....
Therrs no way to know without a double blind study. Each person is different. Iโve read that flax seed helps accelerate Prostate cancer. Healthy eating helps the body function better overall, which helps keep you stronger and better Amr to deal with cancer and stress.
Yup, I read that too, but it's the flaxseed OIL which you should never consume. High levels of ALA (alpha-linoleic acid) were found in men with prostate cancer, so it was assumed that flaxseeds should be avoided. NOT TRUE, said Dr Wahnefeld....ALA builds up in the prostates of men who have a genetic inability to process certain fats....so this finding is erroneous and flaxseed does indeed reduce tumor markers. If it worked in my case, then I'm grateful....but a Gleason 4+3 is still hard to be grateful about, right?
Consider the biomedical graduate student. He has to do unique research and write his PhD thesis. No idea what to do. Wants something easy. Ah! There are cultures of LnCAP or other PC cell lines in the labโs fridge. Feed it some (name anything) and it grows! Write paper and get PhD. Significance: prostate cancer will eat just about anything you feed it. Better to focus on feeding you body for healthy life.
In all that I've read and come across, any dietary supplements are complementary to whatever you may be doing in regard to your cancer and lifestyle. But they certainly don't have a very large effect upon you cancer and do more so upon your general health, especially once you've already been diagnosed with PCa. You could read a dozen articles or studies as to benefits, then the next day find a dozen articles or studies to the contrary! If you could roll back the clock and make yourself 20yrs old and take all those supplements and change your lifestyle, you might then be able to render an effect, but there's no way to do that, is there?
So, accordingly, I'm down for a few scoops of that Ice Cream, and damn the torpedoes!
Hahahaha, I had recently contacted a well known ice cream shop at a town up in New Hampshire I used to visit to see if they would ship some down to me (dry iced) lol, but they wouldn't do it! Lmao, so thinking about taking a 5 hour ride when the weather breaks to go get some
