My PSA has been .02 for the last year but my testosterone is climbing. Why?

My testosterone was less than 10 a year ago but it has steadily climbed up to 35. I have been on Lupron,, Zytiga and Pred for the last two years. I was thinking of a drug vacation because of my low PSA but the rising testosterone is worrying me. Any thoughts gentlemen?

Thanks for your reply! Any idea how to try to lower it if I don’t go on a vacation?

Hi Nal

I don’t think he started the vacation yet

Nal....I am on vacation for almost 8 months BUT the damn T has only creeped up from 1.5 to 10. So that seems weird that his T is climbing before he even started vacation. i am dying to know why...

As long as your PSA is that low, and scans show no new growth, there is nothing to worry about. A T of 35 is well within castration limits. If it keeps going up, you can try Firmagon or a different GnRH agonist.

Thank you Allen. My appointment with my oncologist is tomorrow morning so I very grateful for your response! By the way, how tall are you? I am 6’4” and my two sons are 6’5” and 6’6”. So I am the short guy in the family!

I am 62...before diagnosis T was 700. After 9 months of Lupron and Zytiga, T dropped from 700 to 1.5. And PSA dropped from 830 to 0.2. I was on ADT for a total of 9 months only.(3 injections) PSA stuck at 0.2 and T is now 10.(after 8 months of vacation)

Look into BAT therapy. Compassionate Oncology has a lot of literature about it. BAT = Bipolar Androgen therapy)

You are correct that this last blood test (get them every 3 months) was at the very end of my 6 month Lupron shot. However the one before that was 3 months ago n the T had risen to 25. So your thought might be to drop Lupron if my T has risen again in 3 months? A certain one that you like? Thanks

Yes...I am aware that in 6% people testosterone NEVER recovers. Mine is slowly creeping up now so I will wait and see how high it will reach in how long a time.

The average median testosterone recovery time is stated to be 15 months in Japanese men.

Take for your INformation. I met w my Oncologist today n he said not to worry till my T hit 50. I Guess I will see what happens on my next bloodwork day. A least my PSA isSteady at .02.

I am about to add zitiga and prednisone to my lupron. How are your side effects with the zatiga and Prednisone in addition to lupron.

Thanks so much for the info

An ADT holiday has one primary goal and that is to TRY to allow the body to recover from PCa treatment. IF one is fortunate enough, their 'T' will recover and they will have been 'cured' or at least in a form of remission.

While on vacation, you want your 'T' to recover while hoping the PSA doesn't take off. If you are fortunate, the vacation will be permanent.

Perhaps the question might be 'can my 'T' recover / increase while I am taking this / these drug(s) ?

I should point out that I haven't heard of this possibility before but I'm no doctor, so an understandable explanation must exist.

Is it possible that the drug(s) source might be questionable OR maybe your response is a sign that the drug(s) effectiveness is not typical or as expected.

I hope you get an answer that helps make sense of it all .....

Congrats on your .02 psa. Do you still juice 5 lbs. of carrots a day? I'm just wondering if you are orange. We rushed my son to the doctor, when he was an infant, because he had turned orange. We were sure his liver was going out on him. Doctor laughed at us and said "Feed him some of the green baby food once in a while."
