So my husband was diagnosed removing metastatic pc with bone Mets end of April 2019. He was given 1 month of firmagon followed by lupron and 6 doses of taxotere. His psa went from 112 to 1 by November. Scans were good per the doctor. Come December 30th the psa was 1.9 and yesterday it was 3.25. We are going down to see about a trial that combines zytiga and lynparza. He does not have the brca gene. Regardless of whether he gets the lynparza he will have be getting the zytiga. Any suggestions on minimizing side effects?

Also it seems that the pc became castrate resistant pretty quickly. Can anyone offer some hopeful information? Also we have been going to md Anderson for treatment but might be switching to dr. Sartor because he is closer.

I had the same thing happen to me. I was dignaosed in late Feb. 2017 and did chemotherapy along with Lupron at the beginning. My PSA started rising in December of the same year and was doubling every 3 weeks.

My doctor told me he often sees guys that do chemotherapy have a PSA that rises quickly after they become castrate resistant.

I went on Zytiga and my PSA went down from 26 to undetectable in a few months. More than a year later it's .01 at last check. I've been on Zytiga now for 18 months.

So hopefully your husband will have an excellent response like many do. I haven't noticed any side effects from Zytiga as many others here have said.

Hoping for the best response for him.

Hi there..have you tried a generic brand?and does your insurance help with the cost..

in reply to Riverside2020

I've been taking the generic brand for a few months now. I'm getting my healthcare at the VA and paying $8 per month for the generic Abiraterone.

Zytiga is a good choice. BRCA mutations may show up in the metastases - if any of the bone metastases can be biopsied, you may want to check that. Oliver Sartor is a great choice.

Hi Longleaf!! My lupron series of events...11/2016, pcncr diagnosed, biopsy revealed high gleason score, suspected spread to nearby lymph gland later proved wrong. My specialists team (urologist, oncologist and radiation oncologist) in 2/2017 started aggressive curative treatment of c scans and 35 to 40 proton radiation sessions.

5/2017, psa was 3.5....oncologist started 3 month strength

lupron injections. Lupron continued thru 2017. Psa declined to 1.1 but increased to 3.5 after a 6 mo lupron suspension. Lupron (3 mo strength) continued until 11/2019...psa declined to 1.0. Next oncologist check up is next week. Concern with lupron is cancer mutates and becomes lupron resistant. My lupron experience however has been good and cancer (as of now) has not spread. Next treatment step will likely be some form of chemo. God bless and good health....your progress sounds positive. I REALLY think sticking to a raw vegetable (bright colors, broccoli, low dairy and sugar and EXERCISE, EXERCISE is crucial.

Hi Longleaf,

I have been on Lupron and Casodex for 13 months. When I was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in October of 2018, my psa was 1340 Gleason 8 and enlarged lymph nodes in the pelvic region as shown on ct scan of the pelvis. In December of 2018 my psa was 2.4. In April of 2019 my ONC added Zytiga with Prednisone and I was still getting Lupron shots. While on Zytiga/Prednisone I stopped taking Casodex. I tolerated Zytiga well, but the .5mg of Prednisone elevated my blood sugar level to over 900 and I was hospitalized to control sugar level. I am now diabetic and on insulin. I was on Zytiga/Prednisone for six weeks before Iwent into the hospital. At this point I stopped taking Zytiga with prednisone and went back to Casodex along with Lupron shots every three months ( now six month shots. In September of 2019 I had blood work and bone and pelvis scan. PSA is<.01 and lymph nodes are normal. testosterone is 10. I had blood work for a genetic test since my grandfather and father both died of prostate cancer and it came back negative. No evidence of the disease in my genes. My next blood work and oncology visit is in March 2020. Feeling fine and hoping these results continue.
