Can prostate cancer metastasis to liver?

My father was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in 2017 he was on hormone therapy . He was also has chronic hepatitis.

His psa was under control and he shows complications related chronic hepatitis ( upper Gestrointestanel bleeding) but now suddenly he has attacked by acute hepatitis with 23 bilirubin.

We checked up by ultrasound but nothing is new in ultrasound .

The thing which made me worried alot that doctor said " both acute and chronic hepatitis may be symptom of metastatic liver cancer "

As he was showing DCLD on controlled psa. Anyone has experience about it please guide me

Yes, PCa can spread to the liver. This is not unusual.

But ultrasound does not tell anything suspicious

Little confused. How long ago was he diagnosed with chronic hep? If the scans show nothing new, I wouldn't think that it would be cancer that mets to the liver. A doctor saying "may be a symptom" isn't definitive and I would put this squarely on your doctor to explain further and see if he wants to do any further testing.

He was diagnosed in 2013 with chronic hepatitis . He did a course of sovaldi also .

You need an Axumin PET Scan or PSMA PET Scan to determine if there are PCa liver mets.

So you're saying that an ultrasound wouldn't pick up on tumors?

If the liver is affected there are usually several small mets in it. You cannot detect these with ultrasound.

His acute and chronic liver disease is what you should be focussed on right now. Does he have ascites? What is the point of worrying about liver mets now?

in reply to Tall_Allen

The point is that doctor afraid me by saying acute+chronic is combine may be due to Mets. But ultrasound shows normal for liver. And yes mild ascites and gaseous abdomen seen in ultrasound

I’m saying that this is serious even if there are no Mets.

Answer is YES. A MRI of his liver will show any lesions present. I was diagnosed this way in September 2017 as other scans just indicated something suspicious in liver. After MRI was a CT guided biopsy of liver to get tissue from a lesion. Analysis confirmed lesions in liver were prostate cancer mets. Immediately began chemo with Docetaxel/Carboplatin combo.

Best Wishes. Never Give In.

I had no symptoms of having prostate cancer mets in my liver. MRI picked up 20+ lesions in liver, so once biopsy confirmed that these were from prostate cancer and not straight up liver cancer, immediately began Docetaxel/Carboplatin chemo.
