My father had history of hepatitis C
He had stage 4 prostate cancer
He recently developed acute on chronic hepatitis.
The medical specialist suggest test of alpha fetoprotein . My question is that can this test detect the liver metastasis.
As I searched in internet that it is associated with liver cancer.
Most probably, the doctor is searching for some other type of cancer, esp. liver CA.
This test has no concern with prostate cancer
By now, we all know that inflammation (-itis) of any organ either leads to or is associated with cancer of that organ....examples, colitis leading to colon cancer, gastritis leading to stomach cancer, endometritis leading to uterine cancer, hepatitis leading to liver cancer, prostatitis leading to prostate cancer....in essence...……....inflammation is a key factor..
That is why I believe that anti inflammatory food, herbs, supplements and medicine (such as Celebrex) all help in preventing or reducing progression of pCA.
Please don't ask me about randomized clinical trial data...no body will fund it..its dangerous for their business profits if truth comes out.
Can he have a biopsy?
No liver biopsy yet .
His prostate biopsy revealed adenocarcinoma with Gs= 2+4
It wasn't GS=2+4 (Pattern 2 is not reported), but that doesn't matter now. If there are liver metastases, that is more important.
Alpha fetoprotein can indicate prostate cancer liver metastasis.?
AFP is in general measured to look for chronic hepatitis and hepatocellular carcinoma. If they suspect liver metastases caused by PC they could do a CT scan and if there are metastases they could do a biopsy.
