Orange eyelids

My family claims that my eyelids have turned a kind of yellowish-orange, up underneath the top of the eye socket. I am wondering if this is anything to be concerned about. We don't see any coloration anywhere else on my body. I do take some orange supplements (curcumin, astaxanthin, and also the colorful and tasty BIRM) and eat lots of orange-ish foods (orange, yellow & red peppers, oranges, grapefruit, carrots, cinnamon, salmon). Has anybody experienced this? It's weird. The only meds I take are Crestor, aspirin, 3-month Lupron shots and one prolia shot about a month and 1/2 ago.

I too turned orange during Rt. My Ro thought jaundice . But then I told her how much raw tumeric and other yellow stuff .I was eating. We determined that was it. It soon stopped I’m still eating a lot of tumeric though. Love that stuff..

Farmer raised = no bueno

The grocery where we buy it claims that it is "fresh Atlantic salmon," so we presume it is not farm raised. Were you orange all over, or just in spots?

in reply to Garbonzeaux

I was all over orange towards then end of 8 weeks RT. I had other issues ie; neph tubes and a foley .. glad to be out of that hell .

Pretty sure there is no readily available wild caught Atlantic salmon fisheries left in the US. Most Atlantic Salmon are farm raised but can be "fresh" which would mean not previously frozen which is probably not the case either. Pacific salmon are the only viable commercially available wild salmon left that I am aware of.

Okay, please forgive me. Must make light of the subject. You have Trumpphasia an unnatural oranging of the skin. It should clear up by 20 January 2021.

After the indictments come down . It will all clear up .

In the 15 months I’ve been on this site, we’ve done a pretty good job keeping the political comments off this site. There’s enough back and forth about the treatments to give us all the controversy we need. Too many varied opinions on our current situation. But this is not the place to debate those issues.

Just adding some brevity. I will think twice next time.

No offense meant friend. Everything in America is political . Especially health and cancer care for the poor . Of which I’m now one. I am contra the system that I’m entwined in . Hope this isn’t the case for you as well . I’m not against you or any other member . We are all the same in fighting APC. I fight authority and authority always wins. To question government policies is patriotism ... I like your post . Forgive me . I’ll keep my anarchistic views to myself . Let’s stick to the boring subject of pc treatments alone. Not much joy there friend either. “ Sometimes I wonder weather the world is run by smart people who are putting us on , or by imbaciles that really mean it” Mark Twain ..

And then, if you have eyelids at all the new regime will tax them (even if you wink).

Hail to the head chetto ... As a nurse

I recall a friend giving her son fresh carrot juice .... everyday for a long time

His eyes and lids

Inside his bottom lip and generally his skin looked jaundice

The dr said just take it easy on the yellow/ orange intake

It settled

I can’t imagine why any of the medication would do that

How’s your HB

as in red blood and iron count?

Garbonzeaux in reply to Bebby1

Bebby,

Thanks for your input and also for all comments of a medical (nonpolitical) nature. My hemoglobin and RBC numbers have always been a bit on the low side, most recently hemoglobin 14.1 gm/dl (normal 14.0-18.0) and RBC 4.52 mill/microL (normal 4.50-5.60). Both of these were down some when I was taking chemo (HB ~11 and RBC ~3.6), but recovered to my usual values afterwards. I finished chemo 15 months ago. The orange eyelid issue was first noticed about a week ago. Sounds like it's mostly related to what I ingest.

Yes! My husband has the same issue. He is not receiving radiation, but he is anemic from the PCa. I suspect it’s tied to HB as Bebby1 noted.

Might want to check with your doctors on eating the grape fruit. That can interfere with efficacy of certain medications.

Good luck.

Right. Apparently it is a problem with some statins, but not with the one I take (Crestor), according to my Drs.

Infant son turned completely orange from that stuff they call baby food. Try a couple cans of spinach. But he turned completely orange. He wasn't polka dotted.

So Nal, in your opinion, if I already take astaxanthin and fish oil/omega-3 supplements, is there any good reason to ever eat salmon of unknown pedigree?

I am lucky to catch my own NW salmon. Makes me happy on many levels.

When I was a starving college student I ate copious amounts of peanut butter and oranges. I could buy a big bag of oranges (in Texas) for 2 dollars. After being on this poor man's diet for a few weeks I noticed my skin had a distinct orange hue. Cut back on the oranges (ate more Spam) and the colorful hue went away.

Glutathione

After 4 weeks on Glutathione no change. Complete CBC and blood panel only reveal slightly elevated bad cholesterol however with a very high good cholesterol Dr says I am in great shape. I still think regardless of totals my cholesterol 207 has something to do with it. It appeared about a year ago after heavy workouts stopped, I workout less to none now. Will begin working out in 2020 and advise any changes. Anything in your end??

I'm told that I still have the orange eyelids. I'm ~15 yrs older than you are, and don't think I had it until I started taking highly-colored supplements (curcumin, berberine, astaxanthin, quercetin, etc.). I even pee orange for awhile after taking these supplements. I really think it's just dietary in my case.

My husband has this OPS. He is pretty healthy. Does take cholesterol med but has been for many years. The OPS on his eyelids comes and goes. I just noticed it’s back again. He hasn’t eaten any orange items lately. No salmon. No carrots. He feels fine. I don’t see much about it. How’s your situation? He is 57.

Garbonzeaux profile image
Garbonzeaux in reply to Koffee4metoo

No real change for me. I still have orange eyelids, according to my wife, and I still pee orange for awhile after taking some of the intensely colored supplements. My diet hasn't changed, except that I have been eating fewer oranges for the last year or so. It's not a big deal for me.
