Orange Urine from What Supplement?

Anybody out there had urine the color of Orange Crush soda? I have narrowed it down to my supplements and will eventually find the culprit by narrowing the intake. Just wondering if anyone has had this bizarre reaction to a supplement.

Thanks for the reply Shooter.

Pomegranate

Tumeric

Vitamin C

Quercitin

I get that too. I take several of the same supplements, but my money is on quercetin and curcumin (in the tumeric) as the causes.

Thanks for the reply. I am doing a daily elimination and will report back if I find the culprit. It was a little scary at first as I thought it was blood.

If it's orange, you may be dehydrated, or you may be taking in too much of some carotenes (which can be toxic). Imagine what it's doing to your liver. If it's yellow, it's probably B2 (riboflavin) or B12. Obviously, whatever it is, you're taking too much and your body is getting rid of the excess. Switch to foods.

Zinc will give you orange urine if taken in large quantities.

Vitamin C does it for me.

Turmeric will stain anything, but the color is between yellow and orange, not bright orange.

I'd suspect B vitamins and something else that is adding to it. The thought of 'over dosing' carotenes, turmeric or lack of dilution (not enough fluids) would make some sense.

I know that JUST a B Complex changes the color of my urine dramatically after a few hours (body elimination) - and that's just taking one a day. There might be more happening but with ALL those supplements, it does seem like some excessive consumption to me.

I used to 'overload' on supplements and concluded that many of them (in combo) were a waste of money and somewhat taxing on my body. I've narrowed my supplementation to a group of five - I'll name a few key ones - Zyflamend, Black Seed Oil, Sulforaphane, Vit C, Metformin, Vit D + K2 and a B Complex. I take the recommended daily doses ONLY - nothing more - at least not yet. I think it can be overdone - with all due respect.

The Zyflammend covers off a lot of the supplements that have been identified as having the 'potential' of helping the body fight back (through an improved immune system) It is a complex that you will feel because you get some biofeedback thru an aftertaste (that is not unpleasant, but noticeable).

I also have Quercetin, Turmeric (Extract) and IP-6 supplements LEFT over that I take in small doses (as I rotate thru them until they will be empty and done with) they were the 'old regime'. They will be off the list, although they have some properties that could be beneficial.

Seeing as I'm an insomniac, I take some herbals to help me sleep (valerian, chamomille, lemon balm, hops, a magnesium complex , 20 mg. of melatonin, L-Theanine + 5 HTP.

That's a lot of stuff to take on a daily basis, but I gauge how my body reacts (I feel fine and am finally sleeping better) and have no gastro issues other than a bit of gas which I time - late in the evening when I won't ruin any social events,

There's also a recent post about Dukoral (which I took) and there's new stuff that seems to be coming to light (betel leaves + more that are being looked at).

I would encourage you to do some more reading on supplements (and the research behind EACH one) to narrow them down to something that is proven to have a beneficial effect that is more than 'speculation'. You'll eventually save precious dollars and spare your body from potentially toxic effects from 'overdoing it'. There are many doctors who HATE supplements and want people to get their proper nourishment thru their diet(s). That debate continues.

Wishing you well on your journey .....

RB,

I am on the same page with you, though much less research performed. My list of supplements is now 1/3 of what it once was. Quercetin, IP-6, Vitamin C, and Magnesium are on my list to consider eliminating. This would leave me with 5 supplements: Apple Cider Vinegar (Kidney Stone), Broccoli Extract, CoQ10, Pomegranate, and Turmeric.

My Med Onc at Hopkins believes in the POMI-T and Broccolli and it seems pretty harmless to me. The CoQ10 does seem to help me recover from exercise and heat.

Thanks for the great reply, I really enjoyed it and appreciate it.

I think you are headed in the right direction. I substituted turmeric with Zyflamend - because of my arthritis and the anti-inflammatory actions it provides.

ZYFLA is almost a knockout punch because it combines a lot of the'good stuff' that the 'best supplements' could offer. Magnesium is a BIG deal that is underestimated, but it can be served well in the diet - it is special for me because it helps address insomnia and helps provide an overall balance in me.

I would encourage you to look at Metformin at some point in time - especially if you re on ADT.

The broccoli extract is 'the SULFO that I mentioned - similar in a lot of ways - but has recently been highlighted based on some evidence that it could help make a difference in some patients.

Many mention POMI-T - I haven't gone with that - but I can't see any harm and it has some health benefits that would be hard to argue against. For me it wasn't clear enough if it was worth the expense and adding it to my 'too lengthy list'.

Apple cider vinegar is a good thing - I take the real one - 'with the Mother' - raw and unpasteurized - it's on the table and I add it to a few things to ensure that I get some every few days (soups salads, stews). Up HERE, in Canada, we use vinegar on our fries (can't do fries without vinegar - a British / Canadian tradition that we are raised with). so I do fish and chips every Friday ...

WE get a funny look when we're in the USA IF we dare ask for it (do you have any vinegar??) - they think we're from another planet _ LOL !

Anyways - keep up the good fight ! Nice to chat ....

Come to the Boardwalks on the US Mid-Atlantic coast, we love malt vinegar on our fries!

I think I will try a trial substituting Ziflamend for the Pomi-T and CoQ10 and see how it goes. Leaving the Mag in. I tried the liquid ACV with the mother and determined that PC progression may be more tolerable.

Best wishes!

It's Z'Y'flamend - glad you like your fries the right way and ACV 'raw' is an acquired taste - LOL
