QOL trip to the orange groves for the annual blossom extravaganza.

if you live near or within driving distance of orange tree groves… now is time to go enjoy the orange tree bloom. Orange blossoms are intensely fragrant and so beautiful as to be intoxicating. Orange blossom fragrance is one of the pure nature provided pleasures of life. Peak bloom time is the best time for the full experience.

Orange trees are located in central Florida and can be experienced there and here in the Central Valley of California there are enormous fields of orange groves as well. There are lots of great resort quality motels in Fresno and the area to use as a base to head out from ( heated pools, jacuzzi’s, big workout rooms, room service ) In the Central Valley there is the “ Orange Blossom Trail “ that has been marked with road signs and web maps. All along the trail there are small farm stands selling local fruit and produce. The stands are filled with citrus, great spring leafy veggies and strawberries… all fresh off the farm. It’d make a great one or two day adventure and you could include the local “ wild flower trail “ so see the super bloom too.

A trip to enjoy the citrus bloom and / or wild flower bloom would be wonderful QOL trips individually or, even better, with your loved ones.

I hope some of you can make this great QOL trip.

❤️❤️❤️

alright buster …. Get yourself in gear , and head up and “ do it “ . Yayahahahaya yayahahahaya. There is that small window , only once a year …

It was a great drive thru probably the most powerfully intense AG region on the planet. Actual peak is a couple - few days off yet but plenty of early blooms to Mesmerize.

When you get to the west side of the drive ( understanding that you started down near the south end closest to you near Reedly. ) , you’ll be in Clovis - Fresno….. drive over to “ pismo coastal grill “ ( just west of blackstone on the south side of nees , on nees ).

And order their Cioppino ( if available ) or their stunning wood smoke cooked lobster dinner. They have some kind of secret trick wood smoke they cook in …. It’s devastating. Yayahahahaya. I get the darkened smoked Brussels with it as well. Probably few people have tried Brussels cooked like that. Not too dissimilar to balsamic vinegar, brussels sprouts . IMHO this is 3-4 star live smoked fare. Eating a lobster tail cooked like that is tricky ( large lobster tail, cut in half down the middle ), you peel away the scales individually, where / how is pretty clear, and eat the meat that way.

Then head back out to finish the orange trail, then drive the wildflowers as much as you can. Top notch QOL nature entertainment.

yessiree…. if you can manage it on your professional schedule, it won’t disappoint. It’s gonna be a “ bit “ hot outside with temps between 87f and 97f but, orange trees love to give off turpines when its warm. Gonna cool back down starting this coming Monday.

Love ya bro

Have citrus trees here in Lake Havasu and they do well. I open the doors every morning and enjoy the beautiful fragrance

Kaliber profile image
Kaliber in reply tomrscruffy

oh maaaaannnn …. Heavenly. I know you really love that. Yummmmmmmmm… yummm

My last house had a huge naval orange tree outside the bedroom window and I have a miniature potted lemon tree ( about a bushel a season ) and a dwarf mandarin orange tree on / near the back deck ( too much fruit and , of course, in these parts you can’t even give it away . Too much excess , no one wants it ). A large number of neighbors have very large citrus trees in their back yards. The prevalent winds blow “ all that “ away to other lucky neighbors, but now and then the wind shifts and I get “ all that “ full bore. I’m sitting in my jacuzzi right now ( 8 p.m. ) and it’s “ still wind “ back here …. the citrus fragrances occasionally waft thru and are brain numbing pleasure. Wonderful….

I juice and freeze my citrus so i can enjoy year round in cocktails. I do about 80lbs at a time and give away to friends when the freezer is full

Kaliber profile image
Kaliber in reply tomrscruffy

yea buddy …. I once bought a kitchen appliance that squeezed halves into fresh juice when I had a naval orange tree in my back yard. Fresh is best but I prefer Florida orange taste over California oranges. Something in the soil prolly. I eventually became enamored with giant white grapefruit juice over time.

Nowadays, sadly, hardly anything will skyrocket your bg faster / higher than OJ and grapefruit juice is verboten with many of my daily drugs, over potentiates them terribly. Still I get some fresh Fla OJ once in a blue moon to enjoy.

My mandarin oranges and lemons in my back yard cross pollinate into lemoranges and mandarlemons . Yayahahahaya yayahahahaya. Fruit that hardly anyone has tasted. For my pallet, the lemoranges are too sweet and the lemomandarins taste real odd yayahahahaya yayahahahaya. No one I give them to ever hardly likes to eat them straight . The oranges affected less than the lemons. The lemonoranges are still excellent in tea tho.

”It’s the simple things”, that often please us the most.

Kaliber, When you breathe that nature grown aroma of Orange blossoms, take it in deeply thru your nose, and exhale slowly out your mouth. Say to yourself each time, “in with the good air”, inhale deeply thru the nose, “out with the bad air” exhale slowly thru the mouth. Repeat 7 times.

Then repeat 7 times, changing it up. In….”the mind can heal the body”. Out….”wake up my beautiful mind and heal this body”.

Does it work? It all works. This is a multi pronged attack on PCa cells. Never underestimate the Power of the mind.

Love you Brother, Mike

sounds great Mike….. yayahahahaya… problem is , …..at about 2 1/2 or so ( out of 7 ) , I forgot why I was counting ( Lupron fog ) yayahahahaya. All the way to 7 is gonna be challenging. 😂😂😂

Seriously tho …thanks Mike for the nice post, I appreciate it. Ima thinking about a wide mouth mason jar , just swirl it around in the heavy fragrance and put the cap on it. I see those commercials where the actor gets blowing air in the jar, and the one that catches lightening bugs…. Maybe Orange blossom fragrance !!!? Yayahahahaya yayahahahaya. Of course that doesn’t work ( I tried it before , doesn’t work ) , but it’s fun to think about 😂😂😂 I do think about having my aPCa asleep for now. I fluff up its pillow, tuck it in and softly sing xtandi and Lupron songs to it to keep it asleep. 😂😂😂

Love ya brother

Central Florida, especially there in Orlando, seemed like nearly everyone had a citrus tree in their yard, back when. That plus prevailing winds always carried that wonderful fragrance over from those banana river groves on the east side.

Maaaannnn … that intense orange blossom fragrance and that pop up night blooming jasmine fragrance. …. ( plus the hissing lawns / Sulfur odor at dusk ) … Orlando was magical back before the explosive commercial and population boom started.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts about the fragrance of the orange groves and juice. This week we were able to purchase freshly juiced oranges 🍊 in glass containers,at one of the “Florida juice stands “ you pick your oranges from their freshly picked supply and they squeeze them as you watch delicious🍊

I never cared for oranges too much until I discovered Florida oranges late in adulthood. Dont go by looks folks. Florida oranges are the ugly ones that occasionally show up in your grocery store lol.

When my parents became snow birds years ago discovered the great low acidic taste of florida oranges with a tree behind their trailer ( looking up to heaven....sorry mom and dad, that's right I forgot it was a coach home lol ).

Kaliber profile image
Kaliber in reply toCAMPSOUPS

I used to buy pure Florida orange juice ( and still do occasionally ) and guzzle it , it was so delicious. It’s hard to find the right product, there are many contenders and …. Some have a note of bitter peel in them, some are flat reconstituted frozen with water and many variations on that theme . I’ve tried everything in the display case in California, even the frozen ones and roadside squeezin’s type as well. For my tastes Tropicana brand, original - pulp free … suits my buds perfectly. For many years Tropicana was pure Florida product but their product was in such high demand they couldn’t keep up with orders. Now-a-days they add in some Brazilian juice ( which tastes nearly identical to Tropicana) ….but the product remains very tasty IMHO. Whom ever blends their juices has some very accurate buds. Cold outta the fridge. OJ will Jack up your bg dramatically, if you have diabetes , you have to think about it. I also love pure natural white grapefruit juice , but grapefruit juice Interferes with many medication’s we have to take …. you have to check that I against your medications very closely.

There is a closely held bartenders secret juice drink / mixer that incorporates fresh OJ and fresh white grapefruit juice. When combined properly in the right portions, a new , very tasty , drink, emerges. It’s astonishingly delicious , a wonderful unique flavor , but extremely hard to make properly. My uncle Carl was a professional bartender and worked as head bartender at the Copa Cabana in Northern Kentucky for years before it burned the first time . He would make it for me if I brought the fix’ins but never would tell / show me how he made it and he wouldn’t let you watch. If you wanted to research and / or chase that elusive drink, it’d be well worth your effort. Ive tried into oblivion sometimes, and have come pretty close , but never actually succeeded. Just a thought. If you are enjoying the QOL pleasures of life, that drink is a good thing to do.

Love the pics. Had to do a little scratch and sniff on the supermarket oranges in my fruit basket as a result.

Isn't it amazing the power of aromas. They can bring back so many memories, and litterally transport you to another time. My home is in the middle of a grove of trees, mainly cedar, and I love the smells. However, when I am around pine or mesquite the smell immediately takes me back to childhood. Also, one of my aunts lived across from a peach orchard. I still find the smell of fresh peaches and will go way out of my way to find them in season.

Thanks for sharing a post that prompted me to take mental QOL trip.

Kaliber in reply toCarlosbach

I hear you brother , in Texas I had a small 800 sq Ft beach house ( one of those Sears kits ) located 450’ up on the side of a hill that looked into Stillhouse Lake near Ft Hood … Killeen Tx. The forest there was entirely scrub mesquite and small cedar tree / bush forest. A few prickly, pears… horned toads , scorpions tarantulas, Colicchie and big rocks for good measure. In the spring those cedars would literally pour down dense clouds of yellow pollen on windy days ( it was always windy there ) . The updraft from the lake ( as it heated up daily ) brought the wonderful cedar brush and mesquite fragrance / perfume uphill every day. I too loved it there because of the natural elevating fragrance of nature that was so intense. It was wonderful. Some people are terribly allergic to that caustic yellow pollen but I loved it. We’re synchronized there big guy. The scope and scale might be very different, but I loved that as much in its own way, as I love driving up into the ( nearby ) Sierras and that beautiful forest as well.

Just say’in

thanks for reminding us that fragrance has a tendency towards helping us to be more aware in our daily lives. I live full time in central Florida and enjoy the orange groves. Since the groves in the back of our yard be are “non-working “ meaning no company is using the oranges, we are able to walk through them and gather their fragrance often. 🍊🍊

I am very unknowing about NYC but like all service trips I made over the years I appreciated getting to see even a glimpse of somewhere I had never been. Was unable to make it to Queens. Drove out almost end of Long Island (another customer) from JFK a couple times.

Lots of work to get done so I would walk down the street to Landmark Cafe for lunch. I just looked at Google street view and they have put in new sidewalks.

It still amazes me that I got out of a cab with my 50 lb toolbox, walked in the front door of a old residential looking building, took freight elevator down 2 stories below street level and there my customer ran a printing business with about 7 or 8 of "my" printing presses. A lot of scrap generated by such a business and blew my mind to see it all get brought up to the side walk on garbage day.
