On Zytiga 4 yrs . sweats, tiredness side effects. Original PSA 640. To date PSA and Test are negligible. Quarterly blood tests and Trelstar intramuscular injection twice a year.

Problem sleeping some nights, want to try melatonin for sleep but not sure if any reaction with Zytiga?

Not an issue. Sleep is too important. Melatonin is made in the Pineal Gland in the Brain, as we get older less is produced, and the main reason they say seniors do not need to sleep as much----> we need to get 7-8 hours. So Melatonin is the issue with healthy men, But with Pca it is even more important. There are studies, and I suggest you look up pjoshea13 on this site and read the work he has provided regarding high dose Melatonin as a Pca antagonist.

For sleep here is a nice Naturopathic routine-----> get at the supermarket, Yogi's or other brand SLEEPYTIME TEA, it has about 8 herbs that are known to relax. An hour before bed, have a good sized cup. Half way thru the cup take 1 or 2 capsules of Valerian Root. And when off and in bed take a Sublingual Melatonin under your tongue. 3 or 5 mgs will do. If you are older towards 70 definitely the 5, is closer to 60 the 3 is fine. This will knock you out. One trick is to also buy a 1 mg Melatonin also sublingual. If getting up to take a pee break from sleep, as you get back into bed put the one mg Melatonin under your tongue, you will fall right back. Last night I had to do it twice, as I got up to pee twice. Got my 8 hours, and eating breakfast with about 17 supplements, and getting ready to do some Gator Hunting in Florida.

The above works--beats the hell out of sleep drugs!

Hi Nala,

Got Melatonin 5 mg Gummies, Valerian Root 530 mg Capsules and Sleepytime tea, will try and let you know how it goes for me.

Although, would think, if "high anxiety", then this could counter effect sleeping aides...

For high anxiety, 500 mg L-Tryptophane, 3 times a day might help, you can add a capsule of GABA with it--this would act like Valium for some people. I am just reporting--and not a doctor.

Bunker,

I am on Zytiga and took a valerian product which the PharmD thought may have caused my ALT/AST elevation. I am due for a retest next week after being off the product for several weeks. My advice here is check with your MD and watch your LFT's. There are cases of liver toxicity with valerian, but rare. See below:

livertox.nih.gov/Valerian.htm

You may do fine.

All the best,

You didn't mention it so I thought I would ask, are you also taking Prednisone with your Zytiga? The reason I ask is because I wanted to ensure I was taking the medications at times that would be most effective. And then my oncologist asked me "how are you sleeping?". I admitted to him that I hadn't been sleeping very well at night. He then asked when I was taking my Prednisone. I told him I was taking it at night before I went to sleep. He told me that Prednisone interrupts sleep and that I should take it either late afternoon or early evening. I don't know if any of that applies to you, just my two cents worth.
