My husband, 66 years old, was diagnosed in August 2016 with metastastic prostate cancer. It was in the pelvic area, spine, ribs and right shoulder. He was put on Lupron and Xgeva injections and then had 6 IV chemo treatments of Taxotere. He finished that in December 2016. PSA was 0.1 and pain was gone. He has gone through the usual side effects of Lupron that takes your muscle strength and feeling like a man. He was doing fairly well until December this year when he developed pain in his left ear. Thinking it was an ear infection went to PCP who prescribed antibiotic. In January still having ear pain. Went to the ED at the hospital and was told again it was an ear infection. Took antibiotics again. The beginning of February 2018, he started having sharp pains in the left side of his face. Medical Oncologist sent him for brain MRI. It showed lesions in the skull base and lining between the brain and skull. We went to see Neuro oncologist who recommended radiation treatments. By this time, his left eye won't close or blink, his mouth is drooped on the left side. He has to drink through a straw. We are also seeing an ophamologist to be sure he doesn't get cornea damage from not being able to close eye. Ointment needs to be put in every four hours. Now finished 14 radiation treatments to the skull base. Started taking Zytiga now. Has anyone had this kind of experience? I hear it's unusual for Prostate cancer to travel to the brain. The oncologist is not giving us a prognosis or time frame but I feel it isn't too good.

You are right...PCa in the lining of the brain is not good news...that and the liver and bone marrow are some of the worst metastasis....no one can tell you how long..it all depends on how he responds to Zytiga...if that fails you got Xtandi and the new drugs Apalutamide...Darolutamide...Proxilutamide

Gus

It is horrible for him to suffer so much. It is also scarey for us newbies that have had some luck with initial treatments with no reaccurences yet. Reading your words I just want to live for today. I’m sorry for this brutalizing opponent that we face.. My prayer for us all is for limited suffering and an ability to find a ray of sunshine even on our darkest days. This APC can drain everything except our souls and sprit. Keep faith! God bless!

"What happens in the very end stages of Metastasized Stage 4 prostate cancer?"

He included this link describing exactly what you are going through:

You may have to paste this into your browser. It is upsetting but may at least give you sense that your husband is not the only one going through this.

Good luck. he needs you now more than ever!
