What do you make of this?

Three and 1/2 years ago, my husband was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic prostate cancer with numerous bone mets from his hip up to his skull. He was put on Lupron right away, and his PSA has never gone over <.02. (He also had Chemo & Radiation).

My understanding is that Lupron supresses testosterone. Which it did ... completely.

His PSA is still <.02, but he now has a 'musty' order in his genitals that he says is testosterone. He now also has body odor in his armpits.

Can testosterone return without any elevation in PSA?

What do you make of this?

Bacteria adapt.

So, are you saying that it's not related to testosterone but simply the bacteria?

Bacteria are responsible for the odor. I don't know if Lupron has stopped suppressing testosterone, but that would be unusual.

You can determine the testosterone level with a blood draw.

Are you sure he has actual body odor in arm pits and not some other odor.

My groin, perineum the skin has changed to that of a babies bottom or a woman's perineum. Add the extra fat tissue from no testosterone and I am a walking time bomb for fungus or infections down there. I had to up my shower frequency and for the first time in my life use powder. It got out of hand once and I needed Neosporin to heal.

That was the last straw so I started more frequent showers and powder.

The certain way to know if T is fully suppressed is to do Serum Testosterone level (blood test)If the number comes below 10, it means T is fully suppressed. The odor may be due to infection , food items or supplements.

I would like you to know that T below 10 with lupron indicates longer survival and slow progression esp if PSA is also superlow.

Plus 1 on the Jock Itch, Using the powder with anti bacteria soap. It comes back quickly and is stinky in the crotch but no hair and no smell in the pits..

I am surprised that your radiation oncologist and medical oncologist did not talk about antibacterial soap, taking multiple baths a day, and changing underwear, and wearing cotton clothing. Whenever there are hormonal changes and urinary drips, there is a high rate of bacteria and fungus that grows in the groin and underarms. Plus use antiperspirant instead of deodorant. BTW, all that you are describing is normal and expected.

Thanks! My husband also has PSP (a cousin to ALS) and now bladder cancer, so we are dealing with quite a lot. All the help I can get I will take!

I love showers, however, I took baths. Sitzbaths to help relax and peed away. Urine won’t hurt you. Finished up with an antibacterial soap and wash cloth. Key is getting dried off real good. Best
