hi this is my first post! I was diagnosed with ADHD aged 50! My GP refuses to prescribe the adhd meds i need and id to go privtely! Im socially isolated and would love to meet like minded people to share my experiences! Im lively and outgoing normally, but atm im finding everything overwhelming. My life is full of fear about the future. I really would like to know how everyone copes with the horrors of having ADHD! I cant find anyone to help me with counselling etc as the support network here in n ireland is non existent!would love to hear peoples experiences!

Hi. My 1st post too. I also joined because I feel alone in my journey. I also don't have access to ADHD coaches and everything else is so ridiculously expensive. Still, I read a lot and learn a lot. I hope I can find some support and answers to some questions here.

ADHD coaches cost a lot here in the United States and there’s a lot of stigma about it. People don’t believe I have it because I’m an adult and female. You both are in the right place for support. I’ve been here a couple years and it’s been super supportive here. Don’t be afraid to report posts or accounts. Everywhere has some bad eggs, but if reported, admin do great at weeding them out quick. People are non judgmental. I recommend DBT if you can find it.

we all fear what we don’t understand. You need to research it more. I suggest watching these you tubers and reading their books (audiobooks are read by them)… adhd is awesome (book by same name), ADHD _love (books are small talk and dirty laundry), and the holderness family (book is adhd is awesome)

Hi Maxandriosmum.

Thank you. Will look up those resources. What is DBT?

Sorry to jump in here lol...Dialectic Behavioral Therapy...it's worth reading about...also look up Maladaptive Coping Stratigies you may start working out how ADHD has been affecting your life...hope that helps...

Hello, I'm recently diagnosed too and also currently having to pay for my prescription privately. Thankfully my GP has now agreed that he will prescribe for me if the private psychiatrist confirms that they are happy with my dosage and they continue to do the monitoring (I am not sure how often this needs to be, I think probably every 6 months or a year or something).

Is it worth asking a different doctor if they would do this for you? Either a different doctor at the same practice, or possibly change GP? I'm not sure if the laws are the same for you there (I'm in Scotland, but I have a cousin in England on the same meds who has the same arrangement with their GP).

Not what you're looking for?
