Hi I'm a 47yo woman just recently diagnosed with ADHD. I am desperate to find people like me who will get me. I would love to meet people with similar results to share our experiences. Maybe even meet a new friend.

Hi there, I was diagnosed in my mid 20s, started taking a small dose stimulant medication and combined it with helpful supplements to help the medication work better and fight off the negative side effects. It completely changed my life around for the better. I went through hell from elementary school through early college. I could relate to no one practically and was viewed as a very intelligent but lazy person. After getting treatment I was able to complete my Bachelors Degree in Psychology, and am now in Grad School to become a Psychologist MFT to help out people who have this same condition. Keep your head up, life becomes a whole lot easier after you get treatment and add supplements to the mix. Granted you will still have to put in the effort and will have to learn to adjust to the new way of life, but it is totally worth it. I have Inattentive ADHD, what subtype of ADHD do you have if you don't mind me asking?

I find out on Monday when I discuss my test results. My doctor however said that basied on what he has read so far I have one of the most extreme cases he has seen in a long time.

To give you a little background about me.

Whew here goes. I am a survivor of sexual abuse at the hands of my stepfather. At age 13 I gave birth to his child. I became a ward of the state when my school counselor realized at 12 I was pregnant.

I feel at 47 that I have the mind of an adolescent.

I have finally found a wonderful psychiatrist. I am on my way (I hope) to somewhat of a recovery.

Thanks for responding

Mellisa

That is quite the story, and it sounds like you've been through quite a lot. If you have ADHD and get diagnosed, you owe it to yourself to get treatment. It is immensely helpful and can turn your life around for the better, as it has done for me.

Hi MelissaW, I was diagnosed recently too. I’m here to talk. 🌟WELCOME🌟

Hi there Mellisa,

I was just diagnosed at 44 a few months ago. Its such a life changer when you know what you are dealing with and have been all your life. So may thoughts (typical adder) go through your head and suddenly everything makes such sense. I felt such relief in being able to understand what makes me be me. Suddenly, I can have compassion and love for myself after all these years of not understanding why. Welcome to the club and learn all you can about it and use that to give yourself the tools to get understanding and love for yourself!!

Hi, i was diagnosed when i was 22, 2002. I didn’t understand what ADHD really was, i thought i was retarded or something. I award ashamed and never told anyone. Finally about a year ago after doing research and wanting to get myself better I slowly have began accepting myself. I have support from a few friends, this site and a good therapist and psychologist helping me better myself.

I have to admit it's tough for me to relate to the “life-changing DX”, since I've known since they were still calling it “minimal brain disorder” (and I was all of six or seven years old); but it's always good to have a handle on WHERE to make changes to improve life. For me, the battle has always identifying what changes will actually work, because most of the advice “out there” just doesn't fit the way an ADHD brain works.

Best wishes on both fronts!
