Modafinil advice - high HR/BP question

Has anyone had any luck with switching from Adderall/Vyvanse etc to Modafinil? I tried all stimulants (Adderall XR/ER, Vyvanse, Ritalin, and Straterra) and while they have their pros and cons it seems like I can't take them without suffering significant side effects which are probably associated with elevated HR and some overexcited peripheral nerves. I am thinking of asking my Doc to try modafinil and in addition just wanted to check in here to see what works for folks.

Thank you!

It also elevates HR and causes headache. I had a bad experience with it, making symptomes worse

Your post abou Modafinil mentions it elevates HR. What is HR? Is that Heart Rate? Thank you.

I don't know what the poster above me meant by HR but I meant heart rate for HR and blood pressure for BP.

you may want to take a gene sight test. It will tell you which meds have adverse effects. You already know some, but it may tell you one you haven’t taken and may be safe.

Modafinil is generally well tolerated, but headaches seem to be a fairly common in some people. Vyvanse is technically dextroamphetamine, but without getting into too much detail, it’s a bit more complicated based on how it’s metabolized. Since you didn’t respond well to amphetamines, modafinil is a reasonable alternative. I would see if ARmodafinil (Nuvigil) is an option. Again, not to get too deep into the details, but there are reasons why this might be superior to modafinil. Dextroamphetamine may also be worth considering. It has less peripheral effects than adderall and methylphenidate. You may also want to consider Wellbutrin, if you haven’t already. Depending on what country you’re in there are some other options, but they’re rarely used mainly due to misunderstanding by providers and societal stigma. Best of luck.

I too want to find a non amphetamine medicine that does not raise your blood pressure. I researched modafinil's side effects and it does mention that it raises your blood pressure, which make me not want to take it. I am on Wellbutrin 300mg XL and it does nothing for my ADHD. Everybody's bodies react differently to different meds. Perhaps Wellbutrin will work for you. Best of luck to you. :-)
