Some common medications prescribed for OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder) include:

1. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs): These medications, such as fluoxetine (Prozac), sertraline (Zoloft), and fluvoxamine (Luvox), are often the first-line treatment for OCD. They work by increasing the levels of serotonin in the brain, which can help reduce obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors.

2. Serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs): Medications like venlafaxine (Effexor) and duloxetine (Cymbalta) may be prescribed in cases where SSRIs are not effective or well-tolerated. SNRIs work by increasing the levels of both serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain.

3. Tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs): These older antidepressants, such as clomipramine (Anafranil), have been found to be effective in treating OCD. TCAs work by increasing the levels of serotonin and norepinephrine, but they often have more side effects compared to SSRIs.

4. Benzodiazepines: In some cases, benzodiazepines like clonazepam (Klonopin) may be prescribed to help manage anxiety symptoms associated with OCD. However, they are generally used for short-term relief due to the risk of dependence and tolerance.

Prozac didn’t help me, but made my anxiety worse. I’m not OCD diagnosed, but it’s good to know anxiety meds are also for OCD. The med that helped was 2 part SSRI, and one part SNRI. It was called Trintellix. I had to go off of it after 10 years and had withdrawal effects though. One of my insurance companies were not going to cover it even with doctor recommendation. It would have costed me $1000.

Ive been under three type of anti anxiety medication, sertraline then quetiapine then fluoxetine Sertraline was a whole new experience for me, it quieted the background noise for me at first.

As for quetiapine it made me kinda sleepy and gained a bit of weight

the current one is fluoxetine, my dosage has been decreased to 40mg instead of 60mg a day. So far okay
