hi I’m new to the group, I’m 64 & recently diagnosed with adhd & started on vyvanse 30mg ten days ago, the first few days I had intense speedy sensations, dry mouth …as per suggestion of my psychiatrist, these side effects have reduced a lot. But I still feel ‘ wired’ particularly in the afternoon however the symptoms seem to be reducing each day.
does this mean I may have been misdiagnosed?
I was of the understanding that a person did not get wired/ speedy sensations if they have adhd or is this an urban myth?
Thanks in advance for any advice& support from the brains trust 😊

generally speaking, stimulant meds, like other meds, usually calm people with adhd. It is possible that you are misdiagnosed. Talk to your doctor though. It it also possible that you are just having adverse effects to your med. I recommend getting a gene sight test.
Hi Mamamickl, I have stopped the meds on the 14 day mark, feeling relieved. I see my doctor in two weeks & will discuss. Thanks for taking the time to reply. Cheers
Hello. When I first started Vyvanse a couple of years ago, I felt jittery at first but it wore off. My doctor started me at a pretty low dose because I was nervous and had to go up a few times. The very first dose I had about a day of feeling weird/wired, the next it was about half a day and the last it was only an hour. I'm not sure if this means anything but I have also seen a lot about which ADHD medication works for you can be a bit of a crap shoot. The only two meds I have tried so far are Vyvanse and Strattera (briefly-the Strattera did nothing for me and I was actually getting scared to be driving with how easily distracted/zoned out I was getting). If you're comfortable with trying other meds maybe something else would work better? Or, you can wait a week or two and see how it goes. I did have a therapist for about a year after my diagnosis who was experienced with ADHD in adults and after some time she was able to help me verify they diagnosis (through a lot of helping me understand my past issues in a new light) and also with working through some of the general confusion and acceptance that comes with the late diagnosis.
Thanks for your reply Late-Cat48, the meds definately didnt feel right so after two weeks I have stopped taking them & feel relieved. I have a review with my psychiatrist in two weeks (unfortunately she is currently on leave). It is a big adjustment to come to make, after so many years & so much other mental health treatment. I am prepared to try other meds fingers crossed something may work. I am pragmatic & realise there is no silver bullet. On ward & upward. Thanks 🙂
Hi I dont think they were for me or at least at the dosage I was on, although i did find i slept well! Which is new for me, I also experienced subtle nuanced changes that felt good but the bad out weighed the good by far. I have stopped them & will review with my psychiatrist in two weeks. Thanks for taking the time to assist 🙂
