hi guys, after a long struggle ive found the best medicine and dosage for me, enough concetration and i sleep like a baby. the downside is i cant eat at all. it was cute when i started out coz i already am overweight. i went from literally binging on food to eating close to nothing during the day, i only eat supper when the meds are fading out. ive lose 3kg in 2 weeks and thats not right.

how do you guys handle food? does it eventually get better? should i maximise at night when the medication has faded?

Definitely notify your doctor.

I'm on a non-stimulant, which doesn't affect my hunger. Originally I was in Adderall XR (low dosage); it only diminished my hunger slightly, and I still ate 3 meals a day (albeit slightly smaller amounts and I craved sugar a lot less than before starting on meds).

I think I've read that some people eat breakfast before their meds kick in, and eat dinner after the meds wear off. But that wasn't my experience.

The only stimulant that I use regularly is caffeine (mostly from coffee), and I know it curbs my hunger a little, because I crave more snacks when I take a break from caffeine for more than a day.

I had the same thing when I found the right medication. And I also felt like oh this is perfect for me as I'm overweight and I figured I was going to have this awesome diet pill too.So one of the major side effects of medication is or can be appetite suppression but this doesn't last.

Over time your body adapts to the medication and so appetite suppression usually comes back after a little while.

It can take some weeks, months to really see how well certain drugs are working for you.

So for me, much to my dismay : ) my appetite came back aftrr some weeks.

If you're finding it concerning then try lowering the dosage.

Or split the dosage up during the day. Which is a common thing. If your taking 40mg, then split it into 20mg for the first half and 20 mh for the second half.

So give it some time I think it will even out.

Not a good idea to split medicine dosage like that! The effects will be different taking 20mg twice a day vs. 40mg.

Oh! Really? I heard it on an adhd podcast that splitting dosage was OK. But yes I should not have recommended it to someone else as I am not qualified. You're right.

My son lost a lot of weight on a methylphenidate XR when he was young. His Dr. always said to eat a big breakfast before taking medicine and then a big supper when medicine wears off. Eat whenever you’re hungry even if it’s right before bed.

I often eat before I take my meds and make sure I have my favourite food and snacks in for lunch.

Like you, the evening is never an issue once the meds have worn off 👌
