When I was younger my meds were causing me to loose weight while still growing taller. Not good. My doctor had me drink a breakfast essentials breakfast shake along with my normal breakfast. I also started snacking like constantly. That did the trick.

Cut to several years later, I wasn’t doing the shakes anymore but I was still eating whenever I felt like it. I went off my meds for a couple years around the same time as I finished puberty and stopped growing upward. I started gaining weight like crazy. It was really hard to break a habit that had been reinforced for years. I’ve got a handle on it now but the constant snacking was a hard habit to break.

This sounds like my middle/school vs early college years. I stopped taking meds when I was about 17 and between 17 and 31 my weight slowly crept up until I was over 80 lbs overweight! It’s only been in the last year that I got back on my mess but this time I’m eating properly and I can’t seem to eat enough!

This morning I stepped on the scale after having eaten exactly the amount of calories I burned last night and I’ve lost 1.5 more lbs. I know part of it is that it’s a little easier to control my appetite and now that my body is physically fit and my metabolism is higher, I’m able to burn more during rest.

Sure! I’ve been eating lots of nuts- almonds, macadamia, pistachio, and walnuts. I eat lots of seeds- pumpkin, flax, chia. Fish- tilapia, salmon, and cod. Grains- lots of quinoa and spelt. Meats- chicken and turkey. I don’t eat pork anymore (migraine trigger) and I only eat uncured or unprocessed meats.

I’ve been really focused on macro nutrients- balancing my fats, proteins, and carbs. I’ve been eating grainy cereal or oats in the morning, sometimes with an egg or two, fish with a salad and sometimes a turkey wrap for lunch with cold cooked quinoa, I snack on nuts, seeds, berries, and fruits/veggies. For dinner lately I’ve been making a lot of sautéed mixes, often using extra virgin olive oil instead of butter, where I’ll use anything from chicken, vegetables, quinoa, whatever the family is feeling that night. I also do whey protein to make sure I’m getting enough protein. I eat red meat on occasion but only very lean cuts of flank/strip steak.

To be quite honest, the Fitbit has been a miracle for me. These days, we really have the tools to engineer our bodies. It tells me exactly how many calories I’ve burnt and I track every calorie I eat with it so im able to figure out exactly what I need to eat. Vyvanse has been helping me eat for nutrition rather than binge eating from boredom, lol.

I’m on my phone right now but when I get on front of a computer I can share some of the recipes I love.

How about you? What are some of you favorite meals and snacks?

As of yet I have not found some favorites because prior to taking medications my diet was horrible so I have been looking into more healthier choices.
