Hello everyone.

I was wondering how common weight loss is while taking ritalin?

Thanks.

Don't know about ritalin but I lost 10kg in 2 months when started on elvanse. Partly it was intentional in that I used the lack of hunger to eat less. Stimulants usually increase your metabolism. However I did try to eat something substantial with protein in the morning which was the recommendation of my clinician. Weight has been pretty stable last few months

Great. I’ve put in quite a bit of weight that doesn’t want to come off. Thanks for the info. Cheers!

By the way elvanse is also prescribed for binge eating disorder

i don’t necessarily have an eating disorder. I’m coming off of a pretty severe depression episode combined with undiagnosed ADHD (I was officially diagnosed about a month ago and now just started my ADHD meds-like yesterday. Lol) So I literally stopped moving.

Good to know about the elvanse in case the ritalin isn’t a good fit for me.

Sorry I didn't mean it that way. What I meant is that because of its effects elvanse is used to surpress appetite so it's usual for people on it to have reduced appetite. Certainly no judgement meant.

I have been on since March and overall my mood is better but more up and down I would say.

I hope it works for you. GL.

Lol. I TOTALLY didn’t take what you said in a negative sense. It was more of a “maybe I do binge eat” type of tone/a-ha moment.

Again. I appreciate your response.

Webmd has more information, but google searches are your friend with this. From personal experience, it helped my partner not binge eat as much, so it was beneficial. For my daughter, it was scary (she’s light already). The doc was able to prescribe a sleep aid and hunger creator as well so she gained the lost two pounds and gained 10 pounds in 3 weeks (possibly growth spurt).

Chart of Ritalin side effects.

Hi there, Ritalin (methylphenidate ) in my experience with my son, it has made his appetite a lot less than it already is, resulting in weight loss. His pediátrican said it is not common but it CAN happen as everyone reacts differently.

I do believe that Ritalin did at one time help me maintain a good weight. Not so much these days, as I have other medical issues. Everyone’s different, so no guarantees, but yes, I think there’s a chance that Ritalin could help you with weight loss. It’s not just that it’s an appetite suppressant, I think it also helps with impulse control, increases the focus, organization, and motivation to do what’s needed to eat right, and alleviates the ADHD need to zone out binge eat.
