Yes that is a basic symptom of ADHD-hits people in different degrees and in different ways. Also just plain old mental health stuff interferes with completing tasks: anxiety, depression, isolation and so on.

Unfortunately I know this all too well. Some days it feels like I can't get out of my own way.

yeah it’s a terrible feeling, you keep your eyes on the clock and watch the time pass by quickly, while literally feeling glued to your place.

Try adding something to make it fun!

Personaly, I put songs from musicals that I love and memorized by heart while working, this way I can focus on the task while feeling better because of the song and because I have it memorized I don’t have to think about the lyrics. Honestly works wonders.

If the tasks you need to do doesn’t need focus, you can put on an episode of an old show you love, and memorized, of course turn the screen down or you’ll end up sitting and watching. Or you can listen to a podcast you wanted to listen to as a way of rewarding yourself while working.

But sometimes, all these won’t work, and you will continue sitting there. Leave that task for later, and force yourself to consider the time you are spending doing nothing is actually well earned. Talk it as a break day, it might be hard to unwind while having all that stress, but lying to yourself that you’ll do it tomorrow sometimes actually helps. Because spending a whole day dreading a task and not doing is far more draining than actually doing the task. So if you know you can’t do it, try to enjoy your day.
