Switching things around.

I have been diagnosed with ADHD at 44 and now looking back at my life, I’ve noticed behaviors and other things that make sense now. I do have a question about one thing that i have dealt with and still deal with. I seem to switch things around a lot. Like a person would with dyslexi. Is that a common trait with ADDers or might i have dyslexia as well? It usually happens when I’m tired or have been studying all day. Do any of you do this? I noticed a post with someone mentioning this as well and it go me thinking 🤔

Yes dyslexia is pretty common among people with ADHD. I don’t have that but whenit comes to numbers I switch them around a lot. Before we had cellphones and internet to store numbers and had to look up, remember and dial numbers with digits, I would constantly dial wrong numbers, all the time. Sometimes it took my 3-4 tries before I got the right phone number. I would also to this on math tests and therefore suck at math.

I do not switch things around. I actually write well: and I did very well in my college English writing class. I am also a computer programmer and must be very accurate in my work. However, that is not to say others might share the tendencies you shared.

I can’t tell you how frustrating it is to take exams, or just learn stuff in general when I’m not completely interested in it. I’ll study notecards for several hours and have to drill stuff in my head so much more than non ADHD people. As a result, I’ve finally registered at in the student disability office at my campus to get a little more time in exams.

What I’ve started doing at work is to carry a notebook around with me at all times. When I’m learnkng something, i take physical notes in my notebook. I do that for 2 reasons. One is so that I have the physical action of copying it down because my short term memory is crap and things will get jumbled up in my head otherwise. Two is because I have something to refer back to quickly in the event that I do end up getting things jumbled up.

I have problems with numbers, and please don't tell me a phone number I will repeat it over and over and by the time I try to dial it or write it down, gone, poof, I forget it or mix the numbers up and it makes me so mad.
