Hello everyone! Recently diagnosed with ADHD and Adderall XR is doing a great job helping with some of my daily struggles. Unfortunately for an XR prescription for 30 day supply, I had to pay $205. Im benefiting from this medication but I can’t afford to pay this much every month. Are there financial assistance programs available for prescription drugs including Adderall? Are there grants I can apply for? Does the prescription discount card with being a member of CHADD help? Any ideas or tips or discounts or benefits you have please share! Good RX does not help for Adderall XR prescriptions with name brand Adderall and generics aren’t available. Also I’m not looking for Adderall IR (the instant pill) Thank you!

Financial Medication Assistance
The CHADD prescription discount card should help. A friend of mine used it for years before her Medicare kicked in. She paid considerably less than she would have paid without it. Her medication was a generic. Prescription discount card do not help much, if any with prescriptions that have a generic
Have you considered using the generic version? I've used both brand & generic and haven't seen a noticeable difference. Note this is ny opinion only, others may have different experiences.
I've used the generic version for years and it usually works vey well. That being said, I haven't used the Name Brand in such a long time that I don't know if it would give me a better response. (I'll probably always be 'Chasing the Dragon' to find the 1 Rx which will solve all of my problems-which, of course, does not exist).
I know it's got to be extremely frustrating (heart breaking?) to finally find what helps with something you've struggled with your whole life, but that you can't afford it. Hang in there.
thank you both! With the shortage currently and prices in general, $205 is the price for brand name with my insurance. $270 roughly is the price for brand name with good rx. My insurance doesn’t discount or cover generics apparently with Adderall and the good rx price generic is significantly lower but unavailable at the time. I’m hoping in the future generic will be in better stock so I don’t have to buy brand name only. But thank you for your help!!
I've had the same problem with the shortage: no generic version available in my area. After a week of waiting, my prescriber has just switched me to Vyvanse. Fortunately, my insurance covers the whole cost. I start my first dose tomorrow! From what I've read, essentially it should be similar to Adderall but more sustained over the day? Of course, I won't know personally till tomorrow and the rest of this week. Anyhow, that might be something to look into.
thank you! Yes I’m totally open to generic, this is my first prescription ever only having the option of brand name and I think it has a lot to do with the shortage. I’m hoping once it’s over then I’ll be only generic but in the mean while the brand name prices are so high and it’s just shocking how expensive medication can be.
Adderall XR at 10mg in Am was basic for me and was about = to Atomoxatine 100mg for my reaction. The Atomoxatine got me started on the ADHD tools. But my memory did not inprove much.Atomoxatine is cheeper and is not a narcotic class 2 med. I have Mixed ADHD , level 3 with Major Depression. Unfortunatly I have had it ALL MY LIFE. While in the military - I was told to never use Antidepresends or Marijuana - even perscribed by a Dr. If caught on a surprise drug test - I would be kicked out. Not totally true thoe! But because of my ADHD also, I failed as a platoon leader, did not inform my USMC Captain of the subterfuge by a subordinate and my Medical Platoon - Dr.Captain - was untrained to even see the symtoms of my Major Depression and Level 3 ADHD. So - I failed, crumbled and resigned from the Navy R. For YOU- check with several of the Cavilian Organizations, be upfront with them and see if they would help you out every month with the meds. You need to stay regulare with the meds, keep up the ADHD Tools and calanders, keep an emotional journal and share it with your Dr. Also be kind to your self! That is the hardest part!
