Hyperfixation• Perfectionism that doesn't allow me to work the night before the deadline
• Zoning out (when someone is directly talking to you ) - i even zone out while giving presentations, vivas
• Having to complete records and projects while watching shows cause otherwise thoughts fill up my brain and i give up
• Twice hard for me to study than my friends cause I have to keep on reminding myself to focus since I get distracted or zone out and completely forget whatever I was doing
• Inability to make decisions until the last sec (which I end up regretting soon)
• Inability to follow directions. I try to focus on what's being said but the moment I go away,I forget everything (my friends don't seem to struggle like that)
• Forgetting the existence of people or things if we don't have any contact
I know most of these are just comparisons from my friends. But these are stuff I have noticed since childhood.
I have BPD and my psych seems to only doubt I may have ADHD.I am a non hyperactive girl in med school. So no one seems to be taking it serious.
I have exams soon and i might fail.If i have ADHD,i want to make sure that I get help before it's too late.
I want to help my psych. So i just wanna know when I enlist my everyday struggles, should i expect "But everyone does that"?

hey! I have ADHD and complex ptsd. All your symptoms resonate. I have difficulty knowing when are my symptoms ADHD or ptsd, so it can be confusing. I’ve found addressing my ptsd has helped a lot because I can tell a little bit more when I’m zoning out if it’s dissociating from trauma triggers or ADHD spacing out. They may seem similar but I do think the trigger of it is different.
Super want to validate all of your symptoms and that you’re not alone in them. I’m zoning out a little right now even writing this. Super trippy!
I highly recommend getting some assistance with school. Adhd is considered a disability (if you live in USA that is) and you are entitled to having more resources and accommodations for exams and school work.
Many symptoms on your list resonate with my experience. I'm 67, male, retired medical doctor, from Belgium. (Greetings from this little country.) ADD inattentive since childhood, formally diagnosed only 5 years ago! You'll find lots of similarities with your experience in previous messages on this forum. Neurotypicals also experience some of your symptoms, but only from time to time. ADD persons have them permanently and suffer from them. There is plenty of valuable information as well as suggestions, recommendations, etc. in articles on directory.additudemag.com. Have a look. Good luck to you!
