Teacher with ADHD

Being a teacher is hard enough right now. But dealing with Adhd and teaching is getting hard. I'm constantly messing with my mask. I often feel like I can't think with it on! My question is how to others handle whistling, humming and tapping from students? I teach first grade and this year I have many kids that hum and I'm about ready to lose my mind.

Hi Sparklerocks~

Wow, yes being a teacher IS tough- especially now.

Hmm... there are some good fidget toys out there for kids (and adults) to use instead of humming and tapping. You could also have a motivational sign for them too on your screen.. and they make stress balls with them too..

Perhaps you could ask the class for a "silent time" and encourage them to get those toys... perhaps they too have ADHD...

Maybe you could periodically ask the class to do "a stand and stretch" exercise?? Just an idea.. It's hard for kids to sit still in general.. do they get a break??

Hope these ideas are useful to you..

Regards~

Thanks. Right now we are doing Go Noodle breaks every 20 min and we have 2 recess times to give them mask breaks. I wonder if it might be they have been out of school since March and have only been back 3 weeks. When doing distance learning they were often on mute. I know part of it has to do with the mask. I hate it and it already makes me irritable. 😀
