Thoughts on ADHD coaching for young professionals with ADHD?

Hi! I have had ADHD my entire life but was only recently diagnosed in my 20s. My ADHD can be a challenge at times, not only in my personal life but also very much with work. I have a hard time staying organized and on top of tasks, with a very strong tendency to procrastinate. I have used various strategies like calendars and to-do lists to stay organized which definitely help but I still feel like I need more support in place. I see a therapist who recommended ADHD coaching. Has anyone had a positive experience with ADHD coaching-- and found it worthwhile? My therapist recommended NEURA (goneura.com) and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this service in particular.

Thanks so much!

I just had my first coaching session today so I am far from an expert on long term value. Having said that I found my first session to be worth it.Your challenges resonate with me. I'm 58 and successful, but its not been easy and has had it toll. My hope is to use the tools learned through coaching to make things a bit easier. I know how I've been doing things needs to change to better fit with my ADHD.

Also, I didn't use NEURA, rather I used the list linked from the CHADD site.

Get the real medication from a psychiatrist . unless you can self medicate on coke or meth. which is very hard because the amount usually taken is too high. you only need a tiny amount to put your mind in a place where you can make money and do well in your job.

Haha now you are 48, male, Austraalian says your profile. Watch it with the coke, mate. Not that it sends you into an arrhythmia you can't get out of, given your age and testosterone and possibly genetic makeup.

Are you already on a slow release stimulant, dear? If not, then that's what you need! I don't need coaching on it and it makes me feel really good and capable. OK my tolerance towards my clutter has increased but I'm getting there under my own steam and all else really is a joy. Even my tax return looks interesting!

I'd be really interested to hear about your experience if you test out that Neura. I've been having a hard time figuring out how exactly to jump into meaningful coaching without the expense of trying multiple coaches on the CHADD website to see if they're the right fit for me. Also, it's not a shortcoming or failure to go see a psychiatrist about medicines for treatment. This was my personal feeling and why I went to a therapist for a few years before finally going to see a psychiatrist and being prescribed a stimulant. Medicine is definitely not for everyone, but I'm 32 and just started that in the past 12 months. It's been truly a game changer for me (in addition to therapy). Even just my ability to sit quietly to read informative books on the topic of ADHD and executive function or ADHD and organization have done more for me than I think any ADHD coach could do on their own.

Keep the courage and keep trying to balance it's impact on your life, just as I hear you're doing (good job!!)

Yes I've done coaching and it was extremely helpful ... a bit like a bomb ... there were tips and ways of thinking that my coach gave me that I'm still applying nearly 15 years later.

You can get hurt by going to a coach. What's the hesitation?

Personally I'm using an app, it has lessons and you can ask for guidance on what tools to use to progress in your journey. So, there's some coaching, but I've found most coaching needs consistency and frequency, and it's not covered by my insurance. So the app has one big payment and it lasts, plus community events. And then I just do therapy once a week. Still expensive but more insurance coverage.

I'd be interested to see how your journey with coaching goes if you end up doing it, let us know!
