Toothbrushing tips

Hi everybody! I'm looking for something, like a video, that will help my two ADHD children brush their teeth more thoroughly. Right now, they have electric toothbrushes that they let sit in their mouths for the duration of the 2-minute timer, and we have our first cavity. When I try to help them brush and coach them how to do it, they get frustrated with me and it can lead to an argument. I'm sure there must be some tools out there, other than timers, to help people with ADHD brush all of their their teeth effectively. Thanks in advance!

Hi there! Try printing something like the attached image and sticking it up where they can see it in the bathroom. I also tell my child that if he doesn't first brush teeth in the morning, he can't watch TV! It works during school holidays! For school days, I take him with me to the bathroom and we brush teeth together. Good luck!

we recently got a sonicare toothbrush with an app that gives real time feedback about what they are brushing, complete with plaque monster things, my kid has done well with it.

We occasionally use plaque disclosing tablets. My child thinks they're fun and he can't argue with the results! LOL Our dentist recommended he do them. I've also found that brushing along with him using a sand timer is helpful. (Though he still finishes before me!) However, I just tell him to brush again. He will often brush the 2nd time without any toothpaste, but I'm okay with that. #pickyourbattles

We use the Colgate Hum toothbrush and app which turns brushing into a game. It uses these colored dots on the toothbrush to recognize orientation and movement of the brush so it knows where he's brushing. The whole thing is a game with different levels and it keeps track of their scores. It worked wonders for us and taught him how to brush. I think they may have stopped making it though because I can't find replacement brush heads for the electric toothbrush anymore. So I'd go with the manual one which allows you to just replace the brush inside the "boot" that has the colored dots on it. Good luck!
