Hello everyone I am new to this group and very excited to meet you all. I am the mom of 9 year old twins. 1 with adhd and 1 with high functioning autism and adhd. I am excited to chat with other parents that are in the same boat as me with the same or simular experiences.
Hello Everyone: Hello everyone I am new... - CHADD's ADHD Pare...
Hello Everyone
Thanks for joining us on the journey of raising children with ADHD.
good morning and welcome!! Yes, I have 11 yo b/g twins. My son has ADHD combined. It’s been a journey and a labor of love! I’m hear to listen and understand!!
Welcome! I’m glad you found this resource. I hope you find comfort and help like I have. As you can tell from me username, I am in a similar boat 🙂🩷
welcome. My daughter is 10, and she was diagnosed adhd 2 years ago. I work in special education and it includes kids with asd. I am borderline asd and my partner is adhd.
I am a mom to an 8 year old daughter who also has light autism and strong ADHD. She has made a lot of progress since we got the right combination of medication this January. However, daily routines and many interactions can be... Harder than I wish. We try a chore chart with monetary rewards but it is marginally effective. She loves having her own money but it just doesn't get her to do morning or evening routines or clean up after herself. I am so grateful we found medications that help her manage her emotions and focus, but this is our current big struggle. I would love to hear how you and others get kids motivated and to do their "jobs" like putting toys away.
If you don't mind sharing I'd like to know which medications your baby is taking?
I don't mind at all. She takes Guanfacine, a blood pressure med they use to help calm ADHD symptoms, Ritalin (the generic methylphenidate) on school days, and Prozac. Her psychiatrist told me how much she thinks anxiety is behind meltdowns and the huge conflicts we had and some of hers seemed worse after we started Ritalin. We then switched to Guanfacine, which helped but she was really far behind academically. We then added back Ritalin. It seems helpful but honestly didn't make a very noticeable difference. My daughter reports not feeling differently but the therapists say that is partly from being young and also the lack of awareness is part of her adhd/autism. Her big meltdowns persisted and her psychiatrist said Prozac is how to treat that. I was nervous to add a 3rd medicine and Prozac sounds intense, but it has been the most noticeable and effective medication she takes. It does seem like meds are personal to each child, but this is our journey. I'm nervous about hormone changes coming up- she turns 9 this summer. I would love to hear from others who have navigated tween and teen years.
