I am new to this community. I am a 25 year old Michigan mom of two boys. My oldest son was recently (Jan 2018) diagnosed with ADHD and ODD (Oppositional Defiant Disorder). We have been struggling with him for a couple years now and to finally get a diagnosis was HUGE. Is anyone else dealing with these two together>

Yes. This is a common combination. Treat the ADHD and use a positive management plan for the ODD. We have to be patient (no matter how difficult for us).

We have the same combination of ADHD and ODD but he has Tourettes as well! Poor kid! We are new to ODD but it sounds like talk therapy really helps kids with ODD. Another thing we are trying is giving 2 choices that accomplish the same thing like “do you want to do your math or science first?its a win win he gets choice and I get homework done.

Yes. My 7 year old was diagnosed with both in August. We have had to address the ADHD before we could address the ODD. My son had severe outbursts and would become extremely aggressive when he was in the middle of an episode. We have done some in office therapy for him and parenting therapy for my husband and myself, the school does one on one and group therapy with him, but the biggest differencehas been with the medication. He is taking a mood stabilizer and a small dose of a stimulate twice a day. He is now back in school full time and doing better. We have a ways to go, but there has been some improvement.
