My walk this week . Deer and brambles

Went for a walk with Mr D to the farm road and we spied a deer in field., hopefully you can spot it. Managed to get photo , couldn’t get close to fence as would have scared it and I would have been stung with nettles. Past the sheep , not so bad today as away from the corner when they were sheltering from sun (what’s that lately). Through the wooded forest , wooden tables and chairs and apples with trees . Crossed main road and back along the river to give horse a clap and cuddle , and back through town. Another walk I went was looking for brambles for porridge. Only been taken a small box at a time but might go back with a bag, I could always freeze them, gosh they’re jaggy and nettles galore where to get them. Still plenty left.

Enjoy your weekend 😊

Fabulous! Our bramble season is fast closing. On my run today I specifically looked for some, but most are now shrivelled up or empty. It feels like this year’s blackberry season was much shorter down here in Cheshire than last year.

But I found a long Hawthorne hedge and I’m so keen to make something with haws!

I had to look up what haws looked like there’s plenty of them about. Might pick some elderberries for the blackbirds. A bit soggy and wet this morning.

Good walk for you today Doris8, I can see that 🦌 deer, I used to go way out in the country with my father, aunts and uncles to pick brambles for making jam, that was before I married, after I married there were a lot of bramble bushes across the road where I lived at that time in the city of Glasgow, right across the road by a river, no nerd to go into the country but my wife and I never picked those brambles like we used to many years before.

I love bramble picking, or blackberrying, however you want to call it. It's very satisfying looking for them, out in the fresh air, and it's free!! Bonus of course are all the crumbles and jam to be made. I've been a few times this season. Been nettled and prickled but I love it!

I usually have blueberries in porridge but thought I can pick brambles for free, save some money.
