#Photowalk March: High water!

Today’s walk was totally unplanned but unexpectedly nice! I had the opportunity to meet a friend for lunch in an area of Bristol I don’t know well. I do know that parking is tricky. After driving around for a while without finding a space, I took a wrong turn and found myself accidentally crossing the suspension bridge and having to pay a £1 fee! I didn’t want to turn straight around and come back so I ended up parking and deciding to walk back. It would be about fifteen minutes and there was a gap in the weather so I set off over the bridge. I was wearing my work shoes which wasn’t ideal. Flat but not exactly supportive or grippy. It could have been worse!

The view down over the river was lovely. There was a good breeze and bright sunshine. Cobwebs well and truly blown away. I arrived at lunch feeling like I’d saved myself a pound in bridge fees by walking so I ordered a big coffee. I felt that I’d earned it! Fifteen minutes back to the car and I’ve added a whole load of steps I wouldn’t have done if I had a better sense of direction. A happy accident!

Thank you! I was in a great mood even when I had more work on later in the evening! Sometimes being a bit navigationally challenged leads to some lovely new places to walk. Sometimes it’s a dodgy trading estate!!!

I had a random walk like that when in Wiltshire last month. FIL was in RAF post WW2, and so MrL was flying out to Middle East/Africa at 6 months old. Family returned during the Big Freeze of 1962/3 and were temporarily billeted in the old RAF airfield/transit camp at Clyffe Pypard…you can imagine the shock! 🥶

Anyway…when he realised we were staying nearby, we had to go and look. As MrL has mobility problems….muggins here ended up walking (and jogging at one point) along a lane to get photos for his Dad!

It sounds like a lovely day for a walk. And you definitely earned that coffee 😊👍

Good photo and walk for you today MissUnderstanding, having to pay to WALK over a bridge 🤣good example of Rip off Britain, anyway, you enjoyed your walk, that is the main thing,I didn't take any pics this morning when I was with my Thursday morning walking group, it was around the same loch as I took a photo on Sunday.

Thank you! The bridge was free for pedestrians. I objected to paying £2 for driving over and straight back again!!!

Sounds like your walk was lovely too-well done!

What a great (not so) little walk! Sometimes life affords you to walk and see that spectacular sight! And walking over that bridge must have felt great (if one can ignore the work shoes!)

(I’m about to order some zero-drop, wide-toed, flexible everyday black boots, that I should also be able to walk long-distance with, as they are actually good looking hiking boots, good-looking as they are also for work purposes . So I’m looking forward to never worrying again about distances to be traversed at work. It’s the start of my slow journey of exchanging every work shoe with zero drops / wide toes)

👏👏👏👏👏

My work shoes were good old Clarks…well worth the investment as a health worker spending a lot of time on my feet! As a community midwife, I eventually wore out the soles thanks to my car pedals…all that driving around in traffic! 😬

They were comfy enough that I could go for a walk in them after work 😊
