Well done for taking a big step and coming on here to share your struggles. That’s already a big step and I think will help.

Loads of Active10 members have found the process of writing on here, reading and sharing in our collective fears, struggles, successes and achievements really motivating. So brilliant!

I think we all struggle at times. The hardest bit can be those few cm of the door threshold. Once you manage to get beyond the house door, I have a feeling most walkers/runners are fine.

So anything that helps with making it easy can make a difference:

- get clothes ready the night before

- know where and when you want to walk

And then, once you know when, don’t think or ponder, just get out there.

You can always tell yourself, only 10 minutes.

And come back here and report on your journey.

An app and website that might help is the NHS Active10 app itself. Info about that app and generally walking is here nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/r...

Let us know how you get on!

hi mumtime. Well done for coming on here and asking for help as CBDB was saying. If you did go for a walk you could always do the February challenge for 12 min walk . CBDB had it in a post that you just walk for 12 mins a dayat least that would be something to get you motivated, and the fresh air does you good as well. Take care.

I found this active 10 app was what got me out of the house... Initially just went round the block 10 minutes each day then slowly ie 20mins after a couple of weeks... I found a time for it and for me it was the morning otherwise I would forget or say not today... Good luck

I used to set my timer for 15 minutes - I thought I could manage 15 minutes   Wine and   Mumtime First thing I ever did was cleaned my sink - emptied out all the dishes, filled it with hot water and set the timer. At the end of the 15 minutes I had a clean shining sink and I felt better for it. The next day I set my timer for another 15 minutes.... I learned I can do anything for just 15 minutes. The house didn't get messy in a day so it wouldn't get done in a day while I was living in CHAOS = Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrom... so yes I have struggled.... but try doing something for just 15 minutes just set a timer for 15 minutes and give cleaning your sink a go, oh and let me know when it's done! 💞💞🌈

I absolutely recognise that language! It’s how I got my house sorted. It’s dropped off a big now but I still set a timer for ten minutes and tidy up most days to keep on top of it and put those hotspots out. I really liked the tips of doing small, manageable jobs and over time, they’d add up instead of having to do huge long big sort outs. Don’t get me wrong, the house still gets messy but it’s much easier to deal with than it used to be. Ruthless decluttering really helped too. Now I just been to find good storage for all my running kit…

Ahh the Flylady her Christmas cruising was what got me through December a few years back. Somebody else said I'd rather be fit and have a messy house. ❤️ Now I am fitter and have a messy house but I know what to do to fix it... I start with just 15 minutes in that sink. 😂. MissUnderstanding 🌈

I've struggled with this. A lot. Not right now - it seems to come in waves - and I do remember this struggle...

What helped me? Find a good audio book! Seriously! It sounds weird and at least for me it worked because the walk wasn't a workout anymore. It was just something I did while listening to that book...

My current listen: In Praise of Walking by Shane O'Mara. The version I am borrowing from the public library is beautifully read by Liam Gerrard.

Another one I enjoyed, if you prefer fiction based on historical research: The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek by Kim Michele Richardson, which was also a narration I very much enjoyed. (The story is about the blue people of Kentucky... super fascinating!)

Have you spoken to a Dr. about how you are feeling Mumtime your health practitioner can suggest help tailored specifically to your needs. Meanwhile can I suggest ACT therapy you can google it for more information. Or just google The Struggle Switch by Dr Russ Harris no need to pay anything but it can explain how we can all feel at times... and some of us feel it more at this time of the year. I use light box therapy between October and March my Dr said it was worth a try. It's not for everyone but I was willing to give it a go. Anything was better than hibernation for 6 months of the year. ❤️
