Disappointing app.

What walking speed would other members consider to be "brisk"? I am doing lots of what I consider brisk walking (today 2 miles in 18 minutes - 6.66mph) yet the app said that none of them was brisk and suggested I up my pace. I feel I am doing pretty well for a 72 year old but the app is making me feel discouraged. So I am going to give up and uninstall the app. I am trying to keep my fitness and health in an optimum condition so that I can care for my husband who has dementia. This app is just not helping in the way I thought and hoped it would. Disappointing.

I'd have to jog to do 2 miles in 18 minutes! The app seems to consider anything over 3 mph as brisk. For myself I aim to walk at over 4 mph. The app seems to work pretty well for me, certainly better than it did in the early days after its introduction.

Hi Pantouflade,

I've now got the app working properly and enjoyed managing to exceed my goal today! I am determined not to settle into an inactive and unhealthy old age and the app will be a great help in that regard. I had been feeling very down after two recent family bereavements and my husband's diagnosis with the early stages of vascular dementia. I'm finding that caring for myself physically, mentally and emotionally is helping to lift my spirits and give me the confidence that I can cope with this stage in my increasingly fascinating and rewarding journey through life.

Hi Ceesew. Good luck with your fitness drive. Like you I am trying to maintain fitness and activities whilst caring for my husband. I do so like your comment about the “increasingly fascinating and rewarding journey through life”. Great attitude. Best wishes. Sheila

Hi Sheila, good to hear from someone who is in the same boat. It's taken me quite a while to come to terms with things and to be able to have a positive viewpoint. My best wishes to you too.

We are sorry to hear you have an issue with the app. Brisk walking is 3 miles per hour so there must be an issue with the phone. If it is an Android phone brand Huawei or Xiaomi you should allow the app to run when the screen is off (under settings, apps, active 10, battery). Otherwise if you have set some aggressive battery savings strategies you should exclude Active 10 from them. If that does not work, please leave a review on Google Play so that I am able to see the phone you use and help further. If it is iOS, let me know and I will pass the issue to my colleagues

It is an android phone. Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a try.

That did the trick, thank you fabcira. As soon as I altered the settings for the battery saving the app started reading my walking more accurately. Who would have believed that there was such a quick and easy solution to my problem! I walked briskly to the shops and back this morning and the reading was just as I would have expected. It is encouraging to achieve goals and I now look forward to using the app to help increase my fitness and improve my general health. Thanks again for such prompt help.

Glad you seem to have got it sorted now.

But the Fitbit alone can be motivating eg if you set the activity levels you want to achieve.

Oh and I don't go out without my phone!

Thank you GoogleMe. I'm finding that just the decision to look after myself and improve my fitness is making me feel better.

...and I'm learning fast not to go out without my phone!

3.5 mph is considered to be a brisk walk, but I don't think that would apply to every one as we are all different. If you walk at a pace that has you slightly out of breath that should do it for you.

Thanks, Oldschool01. My husband gave me the same advice. I have the app working properly now and am enjoying the challenge.
