Hi everyone! Can you believe just how fast 2018 is flying by? It's quite scary! So, we've got time to complete one more challenge before Christmas (!?!?!) is upon us. I'm afraid I've not yet totally completed a challenge - I'll make a concerted effort to complete this one successfully, so I can see 2018 out on a high! How about you? I like our virtual walking groups, because I, and lots of our members, really need encouragement to aim for our goals - sometimes it's really hard to get out there. So thanks to everyone who posts - sharing our successes and failures helps us to stay on track to reach our common goal of better health and fitness! This is a difficult time for many of us - life gets hectic and parties and celebrations abound, sometimes pushing our walking routine into the background. So, what's your last challenge before Christmas? Happy walking!
New challenge for November!: Hi everyone! Can you... - Active 10
New challenge for November!
Well, since moving - just over three months ago now - I seem to be flitting about like a moth round a flame. I just can't seem to get back into a routine! So for this challenge I'm going back to basics and concentrating on aiming for three 10 minute brisk walks a day, 5 days a week. I found a route yesterday that's only got a slight hill, so here's hoping I do better this time!
Great stuff Hidden I need a challenge to keep me going. I have booked myself into my Half Marathon for next year May 19th, so I need to do some speed walking sessions every week to keep up the pace with my run/walk method. So I am aiming to do a 2km speed walk at least once a week.
Hi, have only just been on here a week, so still finding my way around, with not much success really. Anyway, like every one else I want to lose weight, around 2 stone. I used to be really active, but since taking redundancy and trying to work from home on new projects, I have got really lethargic and slow. I have a dog, but the breed I have is not renowned for walking particularly fast. So my challenge to myself is to run a little with the dog for short spurts, just to get my heart racing a bit, then to walk. Also to go on longer walks with him, hoping that this will get my metabolism going also. (hopefully, if all is going well, lose some weight).
Hi there RoseyTB, welcome to our friendly little forum! You're doing the right thing by deciding to improve your health and fitness in a sensible way - well done! That's the hardest part over! All of us on this site have different goals and different levels of fitness - personally I have mobility issues, as well as weight and health problems - but the great thing is that we all support and encourage each other! We share each other's achievements and commiserate and support when our walking's not going well. Your plan looks realistic - Realfoodieclub's mantra is "slow and steady and listen to your body" - looks to me like you're doing this already! According to the Active 10 researchers, you get more benefit walking briskly for 10 minutes three times a day than by doing
10 000steps at a slow pace! I've been walking for about a year and a half now and my maximum step count is 3 500 steps, but I try to do my brisk walks at least twice a day - and guess what, I've lost about 3 stones! Good luck on your journey RoseyTB, we're with you every step of the way! Post often!
