Feeling better

I forced myself to get up early and go for a run before work today - only two miles and the time was seriously embarassing but I feel so much better for doing it. I hate being overweight but I can't seem to find the energy to exercise most days. Am eating better but it is so hard fitting my wants around my family's needs. Anyone else out there struggling to find 'me' time?

Don’t worry about time or distance. Just focus on the 10 to fifteen minutes a day you can spend running or walking. I am confident that your strength will increase and you will begin to feel better and better.

Hi Silentninja - commiserations. It's really hard to find down time when modern life is so very busy. However, strangely, exercising seems to create more energy! I think, at least for me, having a realistic routine that's manageable makes me more inclined to get out daily! If you follow the Active 10 programme you can start by brisk walking for just 10 minutes a day - building up to 10 minutes three times a day! And because it's only 10 minutes at a time you can fit it in over a lunch break, even! Maybe this can take some of the pressure off you while giving you the health benefits of exercising? Good luck!

No such thing as an embarrassing time. You got out the door - you're already a winner.

Finding time can be really tough. I find if I keep a regular schedule it's easier to stick to it, and easier to say no to people or tell them they'll have to wait. Or get them involved! Get the family out of the house for a trot. I introduced some friends to running last year, and they brought their daughter to a nearby playground while we ran laps of the field. Maybe not the most scenic running route, but it got the job done.
