depending on where you are there should be a local number of the mental health that you can ring anytime, if you ring during the day then they will put you through to the worker on call, they always have a person available to take calls during the day they may be on a call but will ring you back, now if its after hours there should be a crisis line number that you can call and they will support you at night.

I am not sure what you mean by cat, IF you have been referred to Mental Health to get a CPN, then you wont have to wait to get to the top of the list, I saw my doctor last Monday and was a total mess and he referred me back to mental health for additional support and I got a letter a couple of days ago to ask me to come in on the 12th.

You can ring them and say that your doctor has referred you and you feel like your not coping well and need to be seen sooner rather than later and see if that helps you get a appointment faster.

The biggest problem is that they have suffered severe cuts in funding and so alot of people have been moved about and some places dont have many people so it may be that you just get a support worker, but they have weekly meetings and discuss cases so if they think you need more they will try to do everything to help you xx

There is a mental health line but they are useless.

Im seeing my GP on the 20th. By CAT i mean congitive analitical therapy.

Il search for the number

Hi

My answer to your question is that probably you don't get help from a CPN or Community Mental Health Team unless you are really very ill, unfortunately they are so overworked and are only generally able to see patients severely at risk or putting others at risk.

There are other sources of support but they are not easy to find. If you google depression and your local town name you may find there are support groups locally, also Mind are good for general info and offer support or can recommend places that do support people, also the Samaritans are there as a last resort - I used their phone line a few weeks ago and it was really helpful, a few minutes with someone caring, listening and not judging or coming up with solutions helped for a time.

CAT can be really useful, I've never had CAT as a patient but I have practiced it and patients have been enabled to cope much better with their feelings. CAT won't solve any underlying causes but it will give you an opportunity to share your feelings and tell your story of how they developed if you want to, you can use it in whatever way you find helpful, the aim is to enable you to feel understood and to understand the links between the past, how you feel and behave now, and the consequences and how you can change them. When are you seeing the therapist, do you know how long the waiting time is?
