Just seeking clarity...

I was on the Depo Provera (birth control) shot for almost five years, from my mid-teens to early twenties. It felt convenient at the time, but no one warned me about the potential consequences. My symptoms weren't the kind of things you expect to happen at an early age. I didn’t really have the words for what I was experiencing, I just knew that something wasn’t right.

I mentioned my concerns periodically over the course of a few years, but my doctors didn't support my concerns. Unfortunately, I wasn't as strong of a self-advocate at the time. Consequentially, my hormones changed the way some parts of my body function. I've never fully recovered, and the reality is that it didn't have to happen that way.

I’ve been thinking a lot about how many people have that lived experience.

I know I’m not the only one. My friends and family have been through similar instances. So, I just wanted to put this out there: If you've ever felt like your body was telling you something and no one was listening...if you've been brushed off, misdiagnosed, or made to feel like your pain wasn't worth investigating...if you've forgotten what your doctor said, or left feeling confused and alone...I see you. And I’d really like to talk.

I haven’t had Depo Provera ..but I found this information. It recommends no longer than 2yrs.

Is Depo bad for your body?

But the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has strong warnings on Depo-Provera and Depo-SubQ Provera 104 packages. The warning states that these medicines shouldn't be used for longer than two years. The warning also says that these products might raise the risk of the bone-thinning condition osteoporosis.5 Feb 2025
