hi all, has anyone had a umbilical hernia with fat that causes them problems. I passed blood for 3 days and had abdominal pain for a year now, had blood loss from bowel end in April with excruciating pain so referred for colonoscopy, endoscopy and sigmoid and only found polyps in stomach that aren’t a worry or concern to cause bleeding. Had a ct with contrast 2 weeks ago which showed a tiny umbilical hernia with fat, just wanted to get an idea of symptoms anyone may have had and any pain or blood loss from bowel end Tia x

Yes, it's possible for an umbilical hernia to cause pain and blood loss from the bowel end( This is because the hernia can trap a portion of the bowel, cutting off its blood supply. This can lead to inflammation, infection, and tissue death.

If you have an umbilical hernia and are experiencing pain and blood loss from the bowel end, it's important to see a doctor right away!!!

In the meantime, you can manage your symptoms by avoiding heavy lifting, avoiding strenuous activity, maintaining a healthy weight, eating a healthy diet, and getting regular exercise.

Thank you so much for your reply, in April I had all of a sudden excruciating pain went clammy lightheaded and passed what felt like an explosion of diarrhoea but it was strands of blood so much of it, I vomited with the pain, pain carried on through the night and passing blood and passed a very large blood clot from bowel, went to hospital as was really scared and in so much pain, really frightening the amount of blood I lost but after 9 hours in local A & E they tried to pass it off as a infection like evoking gastroenteritis etc which I knew it definitely wasn’t, gave me antibiotics and that was that, had 2 fit tests that were both positive prompting a colonoscopy that was normal a endoscopy gastrophy that found polyps that wouldn’t cause blood loss. Was anaemic so referred for ct abdomen which found tiny umbilical hernia, hiatus hernia I knew about as had that for years now. So an umbilical hernia could have caused what I had yet hospital didn’t seem to find my pain and so much bowel blood loss as urgent I wa so. Annoyed in the delay to see anyone as I don’t think anyone from gastro was there to see me, as only seemed to be seeing to breaks and sprains in a & e when I was there.

This would explain so much, blood loss which lasted 3 days but the pain continued for months and still is a background pain now

Could this of happened then corrected itself as no one seems to no why this happened to me, although prob say because umbilical hernia is tiny it won’t be that
