More support and awareness is need for women with POP(pelvic organ prolapses.

POP - pelvic organ prolapse- needs more awareness and support, just like the menopause does. It is never mentioned, or spoken of, and women are struggling! It can be a debilitating condition. It can affect women from a young age and is more common than what people realise.

Women are often left fobbed off by the doctors or treated appallingly. Being told things like "what do you expect after childbirth" "its just a mild prolapse" "you don't need surgery" "i can't see a prolapse "

MORE FUNDING, SUPPORT AND HELP FOR WOMEN WITH THESE ISSUES IS NEEDED!

Did you know there are several types of POP: rectocele, uterine pop, cystocele, enterocele, intusseption, rectal prolapse? And many other issues that run along side them. Did you know it also happens to younger women. Please, let's get this out there and shout to be heard. Women need more support and care with these issues! Surgery is often fobbed off. There are other options to help, but more help is needed and the support and care isn't good enough. Waiting lists are too long.

I had a prolapse, not serious, but enough to affect daily life, with abdominal pain, back ache, leakage etc, and went to the GP, saw a nice older female, and when told what it was, I asked about a pessary-ok, that's fine-I had heard awful tales of the 'mesh' and it's surgical issues, so had a simple pessary to support the pelvic organs, and didn't look back! That was until I had to stop my HRT cold turkey following a very early breast cancer diagnosis in 21. All of a sudden, it became dislodged, and very uncomfortable. Cutting a story short, it was caused by vaginal atrophy from the anti- oestrogen hormone treatment to prevent the cancer coming back!! I eventually saw someone in the intermediate Gynae clinic, who knew what she was talking about (an older doc) and now with a new one in place, I'm fine again, but I do use Vagirex 1-2 times a week to keep the tissues moist. So, there are these clinics, ask to be referred, and talk things through with them, the help is there, it makes life easier to manage, and a pessary is better than surgery!
