Iron test - Please interpret

For a few years now, I've had recurring black tooth stains. I am unable to identify the cause of the issue. I don't take any iron supplements. I don’t drink or smoke. There are no issues with the water I drink, and I consume a very typical diet of vegetables, meat, and rice. I typically have one or two cups of coffee or tea per day. which I thought would be the issue. However, I stopped consuming coffee and tea for several months after professional cleaning. This did not cause the stain to change.

Additionally , I have acne, memory fog, fatigue and severe hair loss. So, I had an iron test done to see if I have low iron and the results were normal.

The test was done without fasting. Can it have an influence on the result?

Can someone please interpret the result?

Specimen- Serum Test: IRON

Result: 60.2

Reference range: 33-193

Specimen- Serum Test: FERRITIN

Result: 46.2

Reference range: 10-120 (ECLIA)

🙂 These results are best interpreted by your GP..

🤔 It could be useful to have a dental checkup..

These results mean your iron and ferritin (which is basically the protein that stores the iron in your cells) are normal levels. A fasting blood should not influence these results. It sounds as though your tooth staining may be a dental issue, it could be worth mentioning this to your dentist at your next professional clean.

There are quite a few things which can cause your other symptoms. You could ask to have your GP perform more routine blood tests. Important ones to include for your symptoms are a full blood count, vitamins/minerals (e.g. Vitamin B12 and folate), inflammatory markers (e.g. Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate) and thyroid hormones.

Hope this is helpful to you 🙂.
