Missing Mirena coil

Hello I’m wondering if anyone can help. I had a procedure on Saturday to remove a fibroid and to remove my Mirena coil. After the procedure the nurse advised that the marina coil wasn’t there. Yesterday I received a letter to say that I’d been discharged from the gynaecologist. This morning I called my GP for advice to ask if I could have a scan to make sure the coil hadn’t been displaced as I do get abdominal pain. My GP said he couldn’t refer me to for a scan and that I would need to speak to the gynaecologist, and the gynaecologists’ receptionist said that I’d been discharged and would need to go back to my GP. I’m not sure what to do. As I’m concerned that the marina coil has been displaced and I don’t know where it is and do not know for sure that it has been expelled. I really would appreciate any advice.

If I was you I would get back onto gynaecology and demand a scan as there is a risk if a medical mistake and they have a duty to you as a patient to check. Coils don't vanish !! I would be very assertive and tell them you will take the matter further if they don't check what has happened. Your GP could have been more helpful, I find this very concerning and I don't think you should just wait and see what happens, hope you get on ok 🤞💛

If they cannot locate with a scan they should refer you for a X-ray. Mine had migrated it wasn’t located on an ultrasound but on a X-ray, as I knew I hadn’t expelled it.

Good luck

Considering how the system works you have to push the GP :(
