Dizziness, drowsiness, lightheadedness, increased appetite, weight gain, dry mouth, or constipation may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

It can often take up to a few weeks before medication is absorbed and is tolerated well, sometimes you just need to persevere. But if the reaction is more than you can tolerate, go back and speak to your doctor.

Thank you. I just wonder how people are expected to cope with everyday things when feel zobielike at least before taking med could continue some sort of life

I’ve felt very similar myself when starting some medication..I’ve been disorientated and concentration has been affected. I’m familiar with feeling zombie- like, and having brain fog, and that’s without medication.

Sometimes the cure can feel worse than the complaint.

There’s really only 2 choices..either you persevere for maybe a week to see if your body adjusts, or you contact your doctor and say you can’t tolerate the medication. It’s possible it just actually doesn’t suit you, and an alternative needs to be prescribed, or you need to start on a lower dose.

If you decide to persevere, try to allow yourself plenty time to do any tasks, don’t rush around as normal, it’ll probably make you feel worse, and you need to stay safe 🙂

🤔 15mg seems to be the starting dose for this specific medication....you might not feel any benefit if you continue to break it up..you may not know when to increase it.

When I started mine I did exactly the same thing, snapping it in half. I was doing okay, but the side effects were the same as yours. I rang the doctors up and they said to take the full 15mg and the side effects will wear off quicker and be more beneficial..... Well, I started the 15mg that night and low and behold, it worked. Within a few days the heaviness lifted and I felt "normal".

Hope you get some relief from this, keep it up. Would love to know how you get on x

I stopped taking them the side effects are just adding more to put up with they definitely cause nose bleeds and the fainting got worse. I couldn’t even take a walk cause i was so unsteady on my feet. They definitely interacted with my other meds hence the nosebleeds - ive already had a trip to A & E for cauterisation which was a nightmare due to my blood thinners. I prefer to try on my own hard tho it will be. Thank you all x

Hi I’ve just read your post as I’ve just been prescribed this for depression, & it made me feel very positive about trying it 🙏 How long have you been on it & how long till you felt better in yourself if you don’t mind me asking?

Thank you 😊

Hi not at all, I've been on them over 2 years now, I have GAD but when I started them that led to anxiety led depression (first time I've dealt with depression). I've been fine ever since taking them. My anxiety heightened in November last year so I just increased my dose slightly and I'm doing much better now. I started on 7.5 then 15 then tapered down to 3. 75 for a year. I increased back to 7.5 last year through lockdown just purely because I wasn't sleeping - anxiety was fine. Now I'm on 22.5mg, the pandemic has caught up with my anxiety, or maybe the other way around but I'm doing better now anyway. Hope this helps x

Thank you so much for the information I’m going to start them tomorrow, I’ve read that they make you real drowsy in the morning though? are you familiar with this?

I’ve been on fluoxetine & duloxetine in the past but still can’t seem to get my anxiety & my depression under control 😞

I found they made me dizzy and out of it and felt awful so thought this is worse than the anxiety and depression so I stopped them and have actively made myself walk every day which helps. Fluoxetine worked for me but they clash with my new meds - i had heart attack! I use a meditation app to get to sleep with ear buds in at night as i have a problem shutting my mind down. Good luck i hope it works for you as it does for others.

Yes the but the grogginess does wear off after a few days. Side effects can take upto 8 weeks whilst your body gets used to it. Stick at it and give it time to do its job x

Hi, it’s nice to hear some positive experiences as well as negative ones. My dr is pushing me change from 40mg of citalopram to mitrazipine . My depression and anxiety have definitely changed and he feels this might be a better medication. I take sleeping tablets and Valium so the citalipram is obviously not helping as much as it could. A recent change is how I sleep on a ‘normal’ Night I will struggle to sleep but will sleep until 4am when I will wake up panicking and then can’t sleep. This will go on for a few days, if I sleep at all it will only be for a few hrs. Then suddenly I will switch to sleeping for 2 to 4 days straight. I literally cannot get out of bed. Wondering if this new tablet will help me to sleep throughout the night? But I am scared about swapping med as it’s a big thing and can cause real turmoil. I’m also ashamed to say worried about the weight gain. Is there a way to not put on lots of weight? I am already bigger than I should be and worry about getting bigger and how that would affect my mental and physical health. Any advice greatly received x

I hope you find the comfort in knowing that everyone is different. They do help massively with Sleep. The lower the dose the more sedating it is, the higher doses work better for anxiety, depression, ocd etc. You might start on 15mgs and work your way up. Some people have breakthrough episodes when they increase their doses, like any medication it takes time to level off in your body. The food cravings do ease after a week or 2. Just watch what you eat, possibly write a food diary to keep tabs on what you're eating? Don't eat too late on an evening.

I've heard success stories of swapping medications, people taper down and increase mirt, and it's worked fine. Have faith and trust in yourself that I'll work. X
