It is perhaps not a great surprise that men are less likely to visit the doctor when they feel ill. However, our survey of over 5,000 people has revealed that a staggering 58% of the men surveyed have hidden a medical condition from their friends and family.

The good news is that the majority of those surveyed on HealthUnlocked considered themselves to be in either good or average health, and when asked about their mental health they felt they were in very good to average health. But, with almost 70% of men surveyed having an ongoing medical condition, does this mean men are overestimating their health?

The prevalent finding from those surveyed, was that in regards to a sexual health problem, most men would prefer to get advice from an online source before any other. This highlights a desperate need for a reliable online source for men to receive private, accurate, anonymous advice.

Key findings:

68.5% of men surveyed have an ongoing medical condition

From those, 7% did not visit a doctor in the last 12 months (only 2% of women with a chronic condition did not visit a doctor in the last year)

64.5% of those asked considered themselves to be in good or average physical health

59% of those asked considered themselves to be in good to very good mental health

52% of men surveyed would reach out to an online source for advice first if they had a sexual health issue

58% of men surveyed have hidden a medical condition from their friends and family

I'm not surprised that men overlook and hide health problems. It seems to be a mix of embarrassment and maybe like a ego thing. ” i'm a man, I can handle it on my own” idk.
